Sent a message through to dan from downshift, he's not impressed and feels all the time that's gone into police/import relations seems like a waste of time... Should be a statement or something up on the downshift site soon

Here is there statement, https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=665417063469649&set=a.150300804981280.27352.138919019452792&type=1

It will never change, No matter how well everyone behaves and conducts themselves on the way to / from and at the Event. They are blatantly out to hit us in the pockets, not keep people safe or catch anyone Drink driving. This is something that needs to stop.

Just a blown indicator bulb on the turbo .. cop shop defect... bit crap though seeing as I had the bulbs sitting in the centre console that I bought today to change tomorrow

Just a repair notice???? No fine? Is that what you mean by cop shop defect? take it to them once you have fixed it??

Some pretty powerful statements posting up on their page!

It is a braver man than I that is willing to attend a DS meet in a modified car.

Yeah it sucks you need to feel that way :/

Its a shame as ive really wanted to attend one of these events. But if the Police are going to hang around these areas in an attempt to target cars and raise revenue then I'll be staying away

It is probably exactly what they want, if they create fear they will prevent events and destroy the car scene.... We need to stand behind the guys fighting for our rights such as the AMEP and Grunt Files etc...

Yep back to midnight mountain runs, saw the defect post on my way out there decided to turn around and go home... lucky I did. Alot of people were defected :/

Waste of time and money from the QPS, not that surprised really.

It really is pathetic! Keep supporting the guys fighting though, if they make any progress its a bonus.... If not, well its no loss!

People will support them until it starts hitting them in the Pocket, Until the time that the defect fines are subsidesed by the Event holders (up the entry free) less people will attend.

It sucks and hopefully there will be enough votes to get noticed BUT I wouldn't hold your breath. Currently the Australian attitude is paranoia about losing their riches from the Howard years. A lot of minorities are free game and car enthusiasts are right up there with boat people. If you think the general public care at all about cars getting defect notices then you live in a bubble. While the majority of cars attending downshift are in registerable condition there are a significant minority that are OBVIOUSLY defectable. The public does not care enough to distinguish between a legally modified and illegally modified car attending a car meet. While there are defectable cars attending downshift the police will keep turning up and the public will not be concerned. And that is the truth of the matter.

Personally I think the best option is a fact-based campaign, not emotionally based. The public does not related to car enthusiasts, but if it can be shown that police spend a disproportionate amount of time looking at defective cars compared to violent and organised crime then the public will care.

One option is to fight it like the bikie gangs do. Form a car club with high entry fees, pool the money and use this to fight ALL suspect fines to members. The club helps document and organise material for defence. Police will reduce activity on the cars which are not defectable or borderline, however the idiots driving clearly defectable cars will still get stung.

THIS!

This statement is VERY true.

Hate to say it . But I think we need to do it the way its done ( by some) in SA . Meets are very short notice. And through rabbit warren type roads (adelaide hills)or way out of the city ( mannum / murray bridge) . While thats sad and it shouldnt come to that . The police are driving the scene underground.

SA is bad though with people having fully hidden mods. From housing performance parts inside stock ones to. Grinding brands off parts and hitting it with a hammer to make it look cast.

Seems that qld is going the same way. Theres only so many times you can reach out and try and have a positive relationship with the constabulary.

Alternatively, you can just keep away from events that have a bad rap with the cops... Just saying that you don't have to be there. If you know that there will be trouble, just avoid it.

Yep will be doing a lot of this, but i guess that is their plan...
