Brand = Brian Crower which I have never heard of myself but I guess he has a name in the USA JDM scene.. Just want to here your thoughts and anyone know anyone with this setup, that price is $US so it will be a little more plus taxes getting it shipped over.

Im just thinking these may work incredibly with the -5 turbines and a well thought out setup! Give it even more low down torque than the 2738cc aka 2.8L

just had a look. it shows that you can also get those for RB25. 2.8 and 2.9 versions.. never knew the same stroker kit can be used for both 25 and 26 engines.. would be insane in a 26 with 272 cams and a HKS T04Z

yeh but when you actually place your order you have to specify what your ordering it for a RB25 or RB26 im guessing its because there are differences somewhere. dun know

I am really going to do serious homework here.. this could be something good :)

I think you should contact powertune australia (02) 9724 0606 as they are distributers for brian crowers and it could work out cheaper for you to get it through them. Warranty etc.

The high rev myth? Spoke to many who say the same thing, along the lines off > the 30's don't need to be revved as high as these, And yes you could rev it higher but it doesnt like it as much as the rb26/27/28.. & Wont last as long.. But this is only what I have been told by many people that seem to know what they are on about.. I just look and Nod :D Im still learning here

The 2.9 and -5's would be a brilliant combo. Just get the rest of the setup in order.

ay! Thats what I thought, Def going the Flex setup aswell.. I will have to do abit of research on these and maybe speak to some guys in the US JDM scene in regards to Brian crower.

This is one thing I want to get right as it will be my last build before I wrap her up, Exterior, underbody, Interior cabin. will be done along with it.. so it will be a 2 yr project

Maybe with different cams.. or a full hks head combo. have you seen the HKS r34 gtr with V-CAM from the best motoring series? 2.8 and a T04Z. Things a monster! i'm all for strokers and big singles!!

I'm all for strokers but a t04z and 272 cams sorry WRONG

272 cams are far to big in duration and a t04z!!! please.... there are stacks of turbos that will match the power with far better response or give shit loads more power and equal the response

Wouldn't go as far as saying "fan boy" but I am a fan of the mines gtr no doubt.

Judging by the "lag" in the vid, the hks r34 picks up from 4,000ish rpm. Wouldn't call that "laggy as shit" also wouldn't say that's lightening response

Ah another infomercial fan eh....just like all the mines fan boys

Ps that hks car was laggy as shit from what I remember of the video

To4z was good in it's day but now is really outdated. I'd much prefer a new generation turbo. BorgWarner, HTA, Precision, GTX ect. Although the HKS to4z still looks cool and has a benefit of coming in a full bolt on kit.

Josh.

Hasn't that myth died yet?

Of course not, sometimes it takes years... Just like the fanboy's don't realise the MINES car accelerated so fast due to the diff ratio changes - not the engine/turbo setup... Notice how I didn't say responsive? Twas a pig of a car off boost so much so it can't be compared to a street application

Anyway with the BC Kits (which aren't new or anything like that) - just be mindful that they weigh in more than the jap kits from what I've heard when on the scales... ie the rods/cranks are heavier than say a HKS 2.8 kit. How much? I cannot say exactly but weight on rotating bits plays a reasonable part if you are spending that kind of money IMO - You want value for it.

So make sure you ask detailed questions rather than looking at price tags to make decisions.

    • Nah no bearings, just slip fit.  Would be a reasonably challenging but not impossible job to modify it to run bearings but I'm hoping that's not necessary as I may have well built one myself if I end up spending hours modifying it!
    • Brumbys with good shells are bloody expensive, I've looked at 2 "cheaper" cars, and walked away from both,  plus after some research spare parts are fairly sparce I'm starting to think that I missed the boat on finding a clean one that is straight (ish) and without alot rust I'm starting to think about a old Hilux as panels and other parts are much more available as they sold tens of thousands of them I use to be indecisive but now I'm not sure
    • A Brumby would probably fit a big metal toolbox in the back... this is how it begins
    • Picked up a new OEM boot seal for the MX5 today as the old one got ripped a bit by me being a idiot by seeing if I could fit a large metal tool box in it, it didn't fit, and ripped the seal with the corner of the tool box I am still waiting on time to get the cams and new balancer installed, as well as the repairs to the boot Time will not be an issue soon though
