resistor packs

Recommended Posts

hey does anyone know where i can get resistor packs made up so i can run low impendence injectors for my rb20??

it sounds like you are in the same boat as me

some old cars have them eg honda CRX

or you can wire a 8.5 ohms in series per injector, this should increase the resistance to around 11ohms and prevent :flamed: the ecu

I've yet to try to any of these methods as my friend is sending me a box :P so I don't know which brand of resistor to use.....may be other guru will help.

you can wire in a GTR resistor pack, which is what i got done to fit 550cc low impedence injectors to my RB20, running AP Eng PFC. available new from Nissan, or try your luck at wreckers.

You could also try the packs (called "dropping resistors") that were used on any of the early (R30) Skylines. Should be available from wreckers at a relatively small price.

I have been told that you can use one large resistor on the common ground line rather than 6 individual ones. This would save on wiring and allow you to use a physically larger (higher power disipation) resistor.

Do not use a wire wound resistor. :Bang:

I got my resistors to run the 450cc 4g63 injectors from Link Electrosystems in NZ, was about 150bucks but the aussie agent for link should be able to get them.

Putting a resistor in series with an injector will lower the voltage across the injector. If the injector drive circuitry hasn't been designed WITH THIS IN MIND as opposed to other systems, i.e GTR, would it not upset the operating characteristics of the injector?

I had some made and all it was was six ballast resistors. I'll get the resistances for you tommorow cause I just finished working on my car tonight and can't be bothered going back outside.

i looked at the resistors Jaycar had - not designed for use in a hot engine bay mate... decided to go with the GTR resistor pack. BEL Garage sourced it and wired it up to the low-impedence injectors. can't remember how much, but i got a 2nd hand one. lucky it works.. personally if i'd known it's only $150, I would've bought new.

I have a Nissan 6cyl injector resistor pack....not sure what it's off, but if someone can tell me what the values of the GTR resistor pack are I can measure it to see if it will do the job. If so you can have that....

could you also let us know the brand of the resistor?

it looks like my parcel will FTA :) have to dig out my year 12 electronics books now

I think the resistors are 7ohm 10 watt wire wound ceramic resistors (I know the resisance is 7ohms I don't know if they are 10 or 17 watt resistors) from jaycar about $1.50 each and you need 6 of them. I'll find out tomorrow as the $100 pack I got from direct imports a few resistors died yesterday, I believe mainly due to poor construction as they were glued together and the ends covered with some sort of silicon and water may have got into the resistors ( I don't really know why they failed, all I know is they were wired up properly and it was running fine and now it isn't). A little metal box only costs a couple bucks and might be worth a go but the resistors may ge to hot.

    • Hi all,   I have been a member here for years and am back to owning an R35.  It's my car and thought members of the community might enjoy sharing my journey.  I am definitely here to join the conversation.  If sharing this content isn't appropriate or it belongs somewhere else, I am happy to have it deleted or moved...
    • Data looks rock solid? I'm assuming you jabbed the throttle twice OR once? the TPS voltage moves up and down twice, however you've mentioned you did it once.
    • Having not watched the videos, I'm unsure, but this may be better suited to the importing thread?
    • Update on this situation: (Forgot to put in my previous post that I bought another brand new pressure gauge and fuel shows the same 50psi) I've deleted all the aftermarket immobilizers and turbo timer shyt and placed all factory wiring back to normal. The problem is still the same and nothing changed, but atleast it's a bit more tidier under the steering wheel. I've also siphoned out all the old fuel and then poured new batch of BP98 fuel (about 15L) into the tank. Nothing changed. Still the same idle. I also changed out the MAP vac line with a new one and, still the same.  So 2 days ago, I thought fk it. I'll just change out the fuel rail and injectors with another set that I know worked well in my brother's R34 a while back. That other fuel rail has the exact same Xspurt 640cc as what I have right now. So I changed it out to that other fuel rail and injectors (new O-rings) and injector harness. Put everything back together, started the engine, 464906286_1624569924763105_5179888796065901094_n.mp4   and yeah... still the same 50psi and idle problem. 🫠 I can also hear each of injector's solenoids running when I put a screw driver to it and have the other end to my ear. I might get a noid light just to confirm pulsasion but yeah, very strange that both fuel rails and injectors put out 50psi.  31-10-2024.csv I've attached it here. I started recording, then started the engine and let it idle with no throttle, then at the end I applied a little throttle and then stopped recording.    So, now idk. I'm going to see if swapping out the brand new R35 coils to my old splits fires will change anything. 🤷‍♂️
    • Hey mate, nice work on the car. Just a quick note, people generally don't like it when you use the forums to dump and run to advertise your YouTube content. If you're gonna stick around and join in the conversation then great, but if not this might not be the best place for you.
