Hey guys, im only on my l's ( get my p's in a month) but i am looking to prepare my r34 25gt for a turbo for the next few years im on m ps, i know the basic stuff like suspention, fuel supply, brakes but im unsure about the more trivial things like diff and gear box or other things that will need to be replaced

if anyone has any ideas or recomendations, it would help alot

Hey mate

Are you planning on just whacking on a turbo on your de motor or do a conversion? If your just wanting to whack a turbo on then there is a thread that lists pretty much everything you will need to know to get you started, but as I am slowly working out and also others will suggest the cost involved are quite up there for around the same price you could sell and buy the turbo model. Since your only just getting your p's I would just do suspension and get used to how the car handles so when you can upgrade you will be able to handle it with the extra power:) but after all it is your car so do what you want, so check out the thread and talk to your mechanic and see how you go

yeah i am planning on getting a half cut or and hole engine to drop in to it, i would sell and get a turbo but because of an agreement with my dad i cant witch is kinda anoying but i wouldnt have the car without it

i have had a look at the tread and it mostly talks about what to do in the engine bay, im more thinking the handling side, and further down the drive line, so would just brakes and suspention be enough or would i need to get a new final drive ratio or new drive shafts or things like that

When you start getting above 200rwkw then you will need to think about brakes, but bigger brakes (like turbo ones now) are always a good thing.

I'm assuming yours is a manual? first thing you'll need is a stronger clutch and then a bigger fuel pump if your going to drop another motor in. Driveline and suspension can handle it depending how harsh you are.

Will be MUCH cheaper and reliable in the long run to just sell the car and get a gt-t when you get your blacks. Whatever agreement you made with your dad will surely be more flexible in a few years.

In the mean time you could still get some decent suspension / handling components as they will be swappable into turbo models. Same with all interior stuff etc etc.

As has been said, either sell it and buy a gt-t, or keep it and buy a gt-t as well. The cost of converting to turbo isn't worth it when you can buy a factory turbo model for about the same as a natro, which isn't that much more than the cost of converting everything to turbo spec

As someone who has unwillingly done this (long story) - Sell it and buy a turbo model.

You will have plenty of years to save to revert whatever agreement you had with your dad to get the N/A Car :P

    • Pre-empting heat management  1. The Kraken manifold will be ceramic coated 2. Just purchased some peel and stick heat shielding stuff from car builders, I'll cover some of the firewall behind the dump and a little on the cam cover, this will be done prior to installation as I have ample room to get where I need to now before that realestate has more bits in the way, I'm also planning to modify the OEM heat shield to go back on, but that won't happen until after installation so I know where to hack it up, I'll also cover it with some some peel and stick to neaten it up after the hacking 3. As the dump is stainless with a flex joint coating isn't really a option, and wrapping isn't recommended for a stainless dump, so once it is installed I'll grab some shielding from car builders to cover the dump, as it has some stand off, it "shouldn't" cause any issues and it "should" just keep the radiant heat away from " melty engine bay stuff" Not for heat management, but I've grabbed some more black crinkle coat to paint all the shiny intake pipes, I'll pick the pipe work up prior to installation and use the paint booth and big oven at work to cure them, I'll then wrap them with some bubble wrap so they stay nice during installation

    • YO- have been searching and searching for an a31 chassis plug pinout, or someone who knows which wire is for tach.  ceffy was flooded past dash during a hurricane.  having an electrical gremlin appear. tach is wonky reading consistent with a short, and on occasion the right side of my speedo lighting will flicker just for a second then go back to normal.  if no pinout available does anyone know if the tach harness opens or branches anywhere behind the dash? im suspecting a possible root behind the radio as there are more shorts in that area on the accessory loop.
    • Means something is not set up right, tune/calibration related.  
    • Finally replaced the previous temporary mesh indicator surrounds (temporary was the last 10+ years 😂) with a 3D printed GTR style version for the front indicators. I think it looks a lot nicer than the old setup and at least the indicators now point in the correct direction rather than angled off. Needed a little bit of tweaking to deal with the intercooler piping but got there in the end. Old and new photos below.
