Bit of a mini DIY for you guys which is super easy and yet pretty satisfying to do.

Yeah those stitches on your steering wheel. Obviously this applies to all leather stitched wheels, not just the factory one.

After many years of use, and possibly multiple owners, your Skyline's steering wheel absorbs a whole lot of contaminants, such as hand oil, kebab sauce, sweat etc :yucky: And cleaning it is probably one of the easiest little DIY detailing jobs you can do.

Start with one dirty steering wheel, with some manky, greasy faded stitching...

You'll need some expensive supplies. Go to Supacheapo, Autobarn, Repco etc and pick up some interior/upholstery cleaner, steal your mum's nail brush, and go grab some paper towels from the kitchen...

Apply and get scrubbing!

And dry with the paper towel. Don't be afraid to rub pretty hard, it will lift the last owners 'hand deposits' nicely...

And finally you have some nice clean red stitching which will really 'pop' from the black leather.

That was easy! One thing to note is not to use solvents such as clothing stain removers, as it can perish the leather. Stick to the foaming upholstery cleaner which is much more gentle.

A task with immediate results and yet too often overlooked - thanks.

I wonder if anyone has ever swabbed this before > checked growths on an agar petri dish???

I'm undecided whether I'd want to know what types of bacteria are growing on my steering wheel haha

Girls say that they only have to clean their wheels 1/3 as often because it's a proven fact that only 32% of men wash their hands after going to the bathroom...

Plus the fact that they (the girls) only spill coffee, swipe lipstick and speckle mascara on the wheel - and they don't sweat.

That's what they say :P

Now this begs the question, how did Zrobe's handbrake boot get so brown?

Oh shut up...:P Haven't even touched the handbrake since I've bought the lemon.. Aha

Doesn't help that I have a severe case of OCD... Says the kid that bought a totalled skyline :P

Found myself bored today so ended up doing this for 10 minutes. Ended up using a toothbrush instead of nail cleaner but I'd say it doesn't make any difference. Looks great now and comforting to know that I got rid of at least some of the human slime inside the car :P
