Well I thought I might start a build thread.

I purchased my GTR in APR 2012 after selling my F6 Typhoon.

soon after I didn't like the wheels so I sold them for some Rota Grids 18x10+15

post-94184-0-47070500-1378028914_thumb.jpg

I then decided to get ride of the front bar as it lots of stone chips and I really liked the look of the z tune so purchased the side skirts and rear pods aswell

from here I decided to give the car a bit more power I thought id take it to JEZ and let him work some magic adding a power fc, coil packs, front pipe, cat, making 272rwkw

after having a few issues with the injectors and some AFM that were ment to be good copies ( LOL ) we installed them and some 2860-5s. we were looking at 324kw at 20psi on 98.

post-94184-0-89908200-1378029996_thumb.jpg

after the tune my aim was around the 330kw mark but didn't achieve it :( JEZ said the car was restricting in the exhaust somewhere and wasn't sure if it was the cat or the exhaust so my next step was to throw an exhaust on and see if it felt a bit better. I decided to go a TRIAL TITAN from Japan

post-94184-0-59248800-1378030204_thumb.jpg

once it took ages to get from japan I finally fitted it. it is 80mm and made a heap of a difference than my old 76mm fujitsubo. but was a bit loud for my liking as it was my daily and driving to and from work needed a exhaust a bit quieter don't get me wrong does sound very tough but needed something more practical so in between deciding a new exhaust I decided to put a pod box on my pods as a so call police officer suggested that I do so otherwise so dodgy I know I put one on

post-94184-0-87122700-1378030523_thumb.jpg

so before I found my next exhaust I got a mid section made up by chris from best mufflers in Sydney great guy and recommend to anyone

post-94184-0-14125600-1378030674_thumb.jpg

this then made the exhaust quieter and a lot more practical for my personal preference.

post-94184-0-14125600-1378030674_thumb.jpg

but as It was quitter it was then back to 76mm and had restriction again

so I decided to do a little body work over Christmas with a clay bar and polish

post-94184-0-65805400-1378030996_thumb.jpg

I then decided to fix up my MFD as it had a horrible colour coming through and changed to film to make it look nice and new

post-94184-0-89330500-1378031312_thumb.jpg

after this my new exhaust arrived so It was time to swap it all over and put on my Nismo weldina NE-1 saying goodbye to my titanium after only 4000km :(

once putting the nismo exhaust on it was the best sounding exhaust I have had on the GTR its a 2x60mm - 80mm dump pipes back

the only thing wrong was with the power im going to push soon it was soon going to be a bit small for what I want so I decided to go back to the thinking cap.

I then get deployed to the middle east and whilst there I decided to do up a list of some things I wanna get done when I get back so the list currently sits on my floor at home ready to be put in the car when I get home I have waiting for me:

tomei poncams and cam gears

gates timing belt and N1 water pump

hard pipe kit

nismo intercooler

HPI dumps

race pace front pipe 3''x2 - 3.5" ( these are amazing looking )

venom 3.5" cat with 5" body

HKS Super turbo muffler exhaust

Haltech platinum pro with eflex tune

arc induction box

cant wait to get home and have a look at all the goodies ill put up some photos when I get home in a few days

Gotta love the HPI dumps, I run them too :)

yeah cant wait to get them on with the front pipes gonna flow heaps beter than the standard dumps ( 55mm from memory ) an extra 2.1cm bigger :D and im going from 70mmx2 -80mm changing to 76mmx2 - 90mm so cant wait to feel the difference!

Looks like the build is coming along well.

Which diffuser is that? Top Secret?

Also, which exhaust required you to cut into the rear bar? Most exhausts for gtrs should clear this but perhaps one didn't?

I am sure you are probably aware that head work can be an expensive procedure and can snowball if you let it. Perhaps for reliability's sake consider replacing the valve springs and adding an oil restriction orifice whilst you are at it, the later of which is cheap as chips with the head off.

Will be following this thread.

Sorry mate didn't catch your name?

its a top secret style diffuser.

well to be honest I didn't cut into the exhaust my TI exhaust I bought for the GTR whilst fitting I played around with the rubber holders and drive from the central coast to Sydney with it. I wasn't paying attention to what I had done as it was about 7pm at night once I finished and just wanted to get home, and when I got home I had a look and I accidently played around with the rubber holder that much that it was touching on the rear bar hence causing that nice cut out haha.

im not going overboard with the car just yet, just cams with eflex not upgrading fuel pump or inj ( bosch 044/ 1000cc ) as if im gonna run 400+kw I want to have an engine rebuilt ready to go, so im gonna keep it around the 350-360kw mark for now until I decide to make more power or what to do.... cant go too big too quick otherwise it gets boring and you will get tired of the car ;)

plus you do everything to it at once theres nothing to look forward to.

Also got my HKS AFM Deletes and got them onto my ARC induction box after giving it a really good polish, came up very shiny and I think is gonna make the engine bay look nice and shiny along with the hardpipe kit and the already installed catchcan.

It's John.

It's good that you know where you want to take this car and seem to have done appropriate research as well - a lot of people don't show this foresight and end up with a car that doesn't work, or a huge debt, neither of which are something you want. And why spend money on something you don't really need at this stage anyway.

Did you have trouble mount the ts diffuser to a non spec? I know new mounts are required for fitting a oem diffuser, making it a right pain to fit.

Thanks John!

Um nah didnt have much trouble as it was fitted to a 34 before so all the brackets came with it so it was a good fit just had to give it a little bit of helping in some places but other than that a great fit and works well with the bayside blue.. I was thinking about the vspec diffuser but everyones got one so I wanted mime to still look clean but not the same as everyone else :D

  • 3 weeks later...

Well cars al good to go, My Nismo cooler rocked up the otherday so just waiting for a spot at the tuners to get everything done :) im hoping for aiming for
350-360kw
E-Flex

-5's

1000cc inj
bosch 044

I could prob push another 30kw I think but for now im happy with those figures, ill push further when I can justify paying the extra for the forged engine

  • 2 weeks later...

Wheels rocked up at Import Monster and are currently on there way from Melbourne..... Aaron said they look sweet so cant wait to get home and put them on the car... but its a surprise what wheels I got, all I can say is they are 19x10.5 +15 ;)

ok so intercooler rocked up a few days ago looks epic cant wait to get it on the car, getting my car done on Wednesday so should have some new results in a week or so, wheels are a few days away but wont go on the car till end November.

Car went to the Tuner today as soon as it got there they got straight into it putting the nismo cooler on....

Also showing how much of a difference the stock Intercooler is compared to the Nismo one.

Stock > Nismo InterCooler

    • Some of them keep working fine. 9 out of 10 of them end up causing an absolute misery bleeding the system and get thrown on the workshop floor in a tantrum and never thought about again because they were never really needed and just added crap to the car that we could have done without. Same-same with HICAS, A-LSD, and various other stupidities that over eager 10x engineers thought we had to have.
    • Not required but appreciated. Super Coppermix Twin even the non-competition model feels like the pedal is noticeably heavier than stock which was pretty well judged IMO. I'll be swapping in the Nismo operating cylinder soon to see how that feels.  Personally I haven't felt anything that justifies replacing the damping loop, at least compared to more modern stuff where the clutch delay valve is actually quite noticeable.
    • He made that comment in my thread - In my case the vents ARE to lower engine heat, when the car is not moving, which is the only scenario I have heat problems with the aircon on, sitting in traffic, on 40C+ days. I can't imagine a scenario that this NC needs any at this point in time. I do not know if it will actually make my cooling when the car is MOVING worse, and I sincerely hope that won't be the case. If it does, well, um, f**k.
    • Nice, thanks. Thats why I was asking, there'd been a fair bit of discussion in the E90 world about vents and where it makes sense to put one (ie, over the filters is not great as that is inline or slightly behind the struts and in higher pressure area). I struggle with air flow and pressures. It sill weirds me out that a radiator in the boot can work.
    • Neither really Vents, when located in the right place, will lower the engine bay "pressure", as air has a path to escape, thus lowering the engine bay pressure, thus.....improving the efficiency on the coolant stack (read: IC, condenser, radiator) This is why the Blits vented bonnet on my 33 worked so well, the vent was in the front 1/3 of the bonnet, which put it right after the radiator  If the vents are to far back toward the windscreen, which is a high pressure zone, it can actually force air into the engine bay, causing higher pressure and effectively loosing efficiency on the cooling stack, like the fab of raising the rear of the bonnet, which does allow heat to escape, but only when the car isn't moving  There's heaps of cool "fluid dynamics" info out there, but, I'll attach a video of a 'Merican joint that focuses on "Miatas" as I found it when looking into vents for mine, they explain it way better than me
