I have often wondered about Wastegate actuation, as over time vacuum drops in an engine and the wastegate seals wear. So unless you constantly adjust it the boost control will lessen over time - good reason not to buy used wastegates.

On a far less serious note, and in response to 2.1 bar boost. In a modified GTIR years ago a friend used to boast that his engine could handle anything failing, so another friend told him to disable all boost control (wastegate locked) and remove the knock sensor for a 10 second full throttle blast. The thing went like a rocket - didn't blow up then, but one week later he called for a tow as he had just played catch the conrod. Motor pulled down and bearings were mushroomed and block had an awesome porthole.
