Mugabetown - Whoretownin' At It's Worst.

It's not worth the cost. Buy NA for $4k, spend $3k getting it legal and fixed up, total at$7k.

Buy turbo for $5-6k, profit.

You can get much cheaper than 4k and about 2k will see engine and box, if you look at right place. Cars never a good investment, but they do make you happy and that's what is most important :)

Needs to be engineered. Needs to pass scrutiny to show that brakes and safety equipment will stand the newfound power. Needs to be straight and 100% or won't pass rego. Will need blue plates as well. All of which cost money. None of which is cheap.

Hence why project ark didn't go ahead. After all the stuffing around, would be cheaper to just get a gtt.

They're on their ps! They should be forced to drive NA's like I had to... These exemptions are BS

It's a pretty silly law. If both cars weigh the same and follow the same speed limit and hit the same object... then stuffed if I know how limiting people's democratic right to choose a high powered car assists anything? Stooopid law made by equally stooopid ppl

You don't need an engineer for this - just a blue slip equivalent, b/c it comes out in a production equivalent standard model and is within scope of legal engine capacity changes not requiring engineer sign off. I'll double check this for QLD, but NSW you pay $70 odd and it's a legal done deal following a brake test.

Zac got his for work purposes then went and bought the skyline... I'm sticking to the rules nick, only coz I have to but yeah also waiting for Ben to get back to me

Just checked it all with Tmr when we were looking at doing it.

Since the factory braking capacity is lower, that all needs to be changed - which means scrutineering to pass rwc. You can upgrade a motor no probs. go from a 2 to a 2.5 and that's fine. Whack a turbo on and that's where things get more complicated.

I'm saying this because i spent ages on the phone to various specialists and govt depts when chants was hellbent on doing project ark. Nsw is far more lax with everything except EPA.

Nah Matt you gt it all wrong :P

I have a work exemption to drive any car at work

Then I wanted a r33 looked at power and weight and established that 19 years old will lose power so If I take that into consideration it should be under (even if it made more than factory it only had to be 170kwatw) so I was all sweet and did it on the power to weight principal and it had to be 125/tone mine wax 83.5/tone

Let me settle this one for you both.

If the car came with say qd32 you can whack a qd32t in there (did this recently all legal)

That is because 4wd and factory sold here and both factory options nothing changes but turbo added

Import. Usually they updrage other things to deal with the turbo eg brakes this has to be sighted at an inspection station before and after the process and then you are all good and only need the piece of paper I your glove box

Nicks case if you go away from factor options then it's mod plate

all dodged up though to get that

Not really we got the car. It had a boost leak and I thought lets not fix it till after dyno and they left the aircon on because my pop told them I wanted a low power reading. Also they only took it to 4500 because it was playing up a lot back then

Titan's old car now well on its way. Purchased and fitted guards, inners, doors, series 2 reo and bar, SCI suspension components, 4.3 diff, series 2 interior including seats.

Tip: series 1 and series 2 white aren't quite the same, but most couldn't tell

fairly quick progress.

Open document and scroll down to a PDF link entitled: Section LA - Engine. This is TMR legal mandate for modifying cars/engines etc in QLD.

They also explain at the bottom why P1 and P2 are in their mind limited to non- high powered vehicles.

fairly quick progress.

mine has all the bits it needs for now.

only bits would be maybe ADM spec seats, because im not as skinny as the japanese people the seats were designed for, but thats likely to set me back a few $$.

Picked up a set of Koya deep dish 18s too. They look really good.

You'd be surprised at the prices. There are plenty of aftermarket components there too. Saw sets of the seats you are referring to there.

what did he do to break a ringland that badly?

he didn't do anything wrong, he started it up to make sure all was good so I could go look at it that weekend and the lifter decided it would snap

It's legislation - governed by law. See VSB 14 post above.

I was at the Sydney Motorsports park conference last year on the nationalisation of vehicle modifications. There were plenty of QLD engineers in attendance. The overall view was that it was easier and cheaper to do modifications in QLD and the NSW engineers were whinging about this to the forum. They are currently aligning all states.

My RB26/30 fully engineered in QLD. Very difficult to engineer in NSW.

    • You know, that is exactly the thing that I was thinking a coupe of hours ago. I even had a plan for a meme, involving one big one, another big one, and the Old El Paso girl saying "¿por que no los dos?"
    • NoS, 2 of the big ones.
    • Oh, that's grim. Something bad has been happening there.
    • Put an endoscope down the hole and saw this. Not quite all around the bore but a good 60% at least. Chin to the chest and towards further disappointments I guess.
    • 2 does "sort of" applies, maybe......but looking at what parts would be needed for the swap to get engineered, registered, and insured, and basically that's everything under the car, the modifications the make it legal would be problematic and horrendously expensive, all for a street car that just cruises around and hits a few twisty roads on the weekends Also, from looking at the NSW rules and Regs, with all modifications that is required just to make the car safe and not twist itself to pieces, and then actually get registered for street use, may still be impossible nowadays As for 1, when you add in a fresh engine, fresh transmission, rear cradle and diff, tailshaft, suspension, brakes, cooling, and all the other fabrication required, your probably looking at up to $100k to do it right, all for a 20 year old MX5 that is over engineered and you would never be able to actually use the power it has on the street, much like your beastie, which I love, but you actually track that thing and can use all of its powers in anger, in a safe environment  Hell, the old Bogan Cruise Ship had more power than I could use on the street, and in hindsight, I went a bit silly on that thing, it didn't really need the 500hp it had for what I actually used the car for, it was fun, but basically unusable on the street if you value your licence  As for cams, yeah, I'll probably book it in for them to get installed and tuned soonish, like next month after MX5 Mania are back at work....... and yes, I've already sent a email to bin the turbo quote and quote instead to install cams and a new Fluidampr balancer that will suit the 2.5 better than the OEM 2.0 balancer that is swapped over for the 2.5 install, as the balancer needs to get pulled to time the cams it's a while your in there sort of thing I did think a bit about flex fuel for a laugh, but being na, and no where really around locally anymore to get E85, I've binned that idea, so no sweet sweet corn smells are set for the car I wish E85 was more of a standard fuel, it's better for the environment, better for tuning, plus that sweet sweet smell we all love As for fitting in the family, that's not needed, as everyone in the family already owns a car that can seat 5 humans comfortably enough, the MX5 is "my toy" As for buying a car that is already built, nah, I would rather pick and choose my parts, I enjoy the process, and in the big picture, the additional cost is well worth the enjoyment, and the occasional frustration, I get out of doing it, albeit with other people spinning the spanners, and me, just paying the invoice 🤣
