I agree with you here. Give the motor a heap of KM's on pump98 then give it some e85 when run in has finished.

WHat ECU is it again ? Can it be flex tuned

ECU is Haltech Platinum Pro so eflex is also on the cards ;)

Decisions..... For a decent 34 it's 15 and for a amloast destroyed 33gtr it's 14

This makes it hard because either way I will be fixing stuff and changing, and of it's rooted I can fix it so not to much there, and will have a new engine either way....

Grant (Count Grantleyish) is selling his R34 GTT it is really nice - think 14k IRRC.

But he is in VIC and communication may be difficult as he can't hear but give it a try Zac.

Thought it was. Well yeah few hundred $$ for the sensor and you're all sweet. Though with E85 so close there's a fair chance it may never see pump98 again after the tune. But its good having that piece of mind that you "CAN" run 98 if you decide to

Don't forget $$$ for the retune also.

I'd be interested to see how a car tuned on E85 would run off boost at highway cruising speeds on 98. It'd be running rich, but i would presume not enough to cause it not to run?

I drive mine from Caboolture to QR quite often. It runs perfect. chews through a bit of fuel but thats expected

If it was a E85 only tune run on 98 running rich would be the least of your worries, the timing advance on E85 is way beyond what an engine on 98 can handle and that's why the flex sensor is important

I want to run a flex tune too, but mine will be mostly run on 98 and then E85 for play dates, because there is no E85 near me at the moment.

Would there really be that much timing at low revs and low load though?

not that I want to rub it in, but yesterday I spotted another United that has E85 which is close to my home

There's no United servos north of the Logan motorway and south of chermside. Not no servos selling E85, no servos at all. :(

There's no United servos north of the Logan motorway and south of chermside. Not no servos selling E85, no servos at all. :(

I wouldnt want to chance it. Considering i gained 100-110hp changing from 98 to e85 with only 2-3psi more, there is no chance I'd risk running any fuel my car wasnt tuned to fun. Hell I didnt even like putting anything but BP Ultimate in my car before i went e85..

In regards to servo locations. I guess Brendale is closest then. But it is slightly north-er than Chermy

From my understanding yes, thats why E85 cars often feel like a big capacity NA while cruising around, and while you are cruising it might be ok but the second you put any load on it, say a hill, you would be in the shit.

this is what I am currently doing. Will not put anything else in car except for BP Ultimate until it is tuned on E85.

Why take the risk if you don't have to?

next question: tuned on caltex e-whatever, run on united? Caltexs range is lacking out of the cities but there's a nice chain of uniteds around

If I were you Peter I'd stick to United. The consistency they have is well known amongst e85 users. They always have a well controlled Ethanol content. Caltex has been knows to drop as low as 70% ethanol, this is a major issue if you dont have a flex sensor.

Also its worth noting that the V8 Supercars this season have in fact ditched Sucrogen E85 in favour of United E85. The same we get from the bowser just "Controlled" tighter to make sure all teams are getting the exact same blend

Either way you decide to go, its always best to get it tuned on the exact same fuel your going to run. Why tune on Caltex if its going to run United?

    • There is a LOT of stuff that can be done, it all depends on how much time and money you want to spend on doing in.  Not all ECUs will be able to do it, and the more control you need the more time and knowledge needs to be put into making it work.  If you're willing to spend the time and money and have the right hardware and skills involved there's a lot that can be done. 
    • I am impressed with all this level of adjustment. I didn't expect all this possibility
    • Correct.  In the case of the 500kw dyno plot I showed you the car actually runs two boost control solenoids for boost control and a 5psi wastegate spring.  It allows me to control how much boost pressure is applied to both sides of the wastegate valve at any point and fairly accurately control boost target as a result. I've tuned it so that it's able to target anywhere from 5psi to 25psi depending on what's needed.  The target tables I've set up in that car are Gear vs RPM, so every gear has potential for a different boost (and torque) curve.   First and second gear have quite low boost targets, third gear actually has different target boost all the way through the rpm range as it's a stock RB25 gearbox - the boost targets have been chosen to maintain a peak of 600nm (what the owner has set as the maximum torque he's happy with putting through the stock 3rd gear) but it carries that to the rev limiter.   The boost curve to achieve that is something of a ramp up, then hold, then ramp up again and the power curve looks more like a flat line haha.  
    • so you can decrease or increase the boost depending on the diet as you wish?     by acting on the wastegate?
    • That's torque and power, it's all from a single run.  The boost curve is "held back" from it's peak target in the 3500rpm to 5000rpm range from memory, so it ramps hard to something like 18psi then climbs more progressively to 23psi nearer 5000rpm.   It makes the torque (and power) ramp more "natural" and less hard on parts and traction, it doesn't feel artificially held back.
