I get what you are saying, my problem is still that the people who are not having kids due to money, probably still wont because the money they are getting is not going to go that far. Where as the ones with the high income never had a concern anyway as they had the money to withstand a year off work anyway. There will be a part of the pay scale there where the maths will work out and some one could go from not affording children to affording children but I am not sure it is that big.

In any case it looks like we will get to find out if it works or not in the near future

Ah, but there is a direct inverse correlation between income and number of kids. And the research suggests it's higher income earners who put it off or have fewer kids for financial considerations. Yes they can afford the time off but they are less willing to give up the income than a lower income worker is.

And as for does it work, it will need a decade or so to start to reverse trends in birth rates.

They are still going to be giving up income at some stage...unless of course they actually do want to get back to work so bad that they drop the kids off at day care at 6 months old. So is it really going to entice them into kids?

If you see a sudden uptake in women in middle class jobs falling pregnant it will give you some idea if it worked or not

so coalition just said there will major cutbacks on overseas foreign aid dollars spent....bout bloody time! look after the people here and the veterans and pensioners who got this country along through their working life and taxes and now some cant even afford the rising cost of electricity!! sorry to those that have to live in 3rd world and attrocious circumstances but its time to focus on our country that needs attention.

I certainly appreciate what I have and get in life but we work hard for these things and contriute to the tax system accordingly to help this country and citizens.

If you can't afford to have kids, you shouldn't be having them.

Lets breed up the low income population and have another generation of dole bludgers.

Random occurrence could be a spike in the numbers for other reason. Needs to be a prolonged increase to have validity.

Thats why i said SOME indication. I have a science degree, I am all for stupid amounts of evidence before confirming something lol.

So do you work somewhere in the field of science? Just for interests sake, not having a go...

I have 2 friends with science degrees, both make less than the quoted $72k average, and both are lab supervisors. 1 at a uni and the other at a very large pharma co.

I work in environmental management, I would never work in a lab in a million years for the very reason you mention there, terrible pay
