Hi guys,

I'm fairly keen on a certain Skyline that is for sale in Fawkner as listed here:

http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Nissan-Skyline-2000/SSE-AD-2334279/?Cr=6&sdmvc=1

I went for an inspection yesterday and as far as I could tell it seemed fine.

I was just wondering if I could grab some assistance for another inspection this weekend? Ideally I'd like a member to come and help me inspect it, and if all checks out I'll put a deposit down and then get a detailed inspection by state roads before finally committing.

Would anyone be free this weekend (most likely Sunday) to help out? I'm happy to pay you for your time, or shout you a slab, whatever suits.

Thanks :)

Yeah I noticed that today :( I'm going to call up tomorrow to see what's the deal. It's still up on Gumtree and the like.

Really hope it's not sold, hard to find a black GT-T in good condition for that price.

There is also a silver R34 GT-T 1998 model there that he hasn't advertised yet. I'll call up tomorrow to see if it's still available, it seemed decent when I test drove it.

I just called up and it was still available, he took it offline as someone from Queensland was coming down to inspect it.

I managed to put a deposit down so it's technically mine :) Just need to pay it today. If there is something wrong with the car would I be able to get that deposit back? And I wanted auto as I live in the city and don't have much experience with manual yet, in a few years I might switch over to manual

classic.

lol

You probably won't get your deposit back if you decide to withdraw unless it was explicitly stated or you get it in writing, dealers can be shady sometimes in regard to this. If you do get it, I'd still let state roads do a check over, because being a dealer they probably have an 'in-house' workshop which may be lenient when they do the RWC.

If someone was coming to inspect, a dealer wouldn't take down an ad without the inspector putting a deposit down on it themselves. In which case a dealer (at least a reputable one) wouldn't accept two deposits on the same car.

You need to slow down dude. You have a case of golden egg and it's gonna land you a lemon if you rush that quickly into buying a car. It's a buyers market at the moment, which means you have plenty of time and plenty of bargaining power to find the perfect car for the right amount of money. You won't be the first to spot what looks like a bargain, so don't think that you have to jump on something cheap just because no one else has snapped it up yet...sometimes there's a good reason for it.

If you've already put your money down, I hope the car checks out well for you.

Hmm so before I pay what should I do? I don't want to purchase it if Stateroads finds faults. Maybe I can hold off paying the deposit and see if Stateroads can do in inspection on Friday? (and pay it then)

Alright I've emailed him about it and he says that's fine. Booking a Stateroads inspection now

good man.

quick tip. never buy the first car you look at. always walk away. you get to emotional.

Basically from my experience dealers never sell a car cheap or under price. You get what you pay for

That particular dealer does alot if not only jap cars.

Make sure the 100xxxkm service is done or atleast leave $1200 for it.

Few years ago a reputable jap car dealer that most of us know here was going to import a s15 for me from japan it had a small dent on the rear quarter and 78xxxkm. The same day i was going to pay him i was searching on japan auction pages and found that exact same car with the exact same dint with 130xxxkm so yea watchout..

They will find faults, it's a 12+ year old car, it will have flaws. And Stateroads are very thorough from what I hear. You just need to weigh up if any of the faults are going to cause major problems or expenses, or if you are happy to live with them (previous accident history etc.).

I'd have gone to see it myself before sending Stateroads, though...that's $200 to spot faults that you may have been able to notice on your own or with a mate. Then when you are certain it's worth buying you send the pros to do a more detailed inspection.

I inspected it last weekend and it appeared to be fine as far as I could tell. It had the timing belt changed along with all filters / oil change etc. I've booked Stateroads to give a more comprehensive inspection to pickup any major issues, but on the surface it seemed like a very clean car

Fair enough

Once you get the Stateroads report, you can post it here and we can tell you how bad the items are / what they will cost to fix.

You either buy a pull clutch and don't use the old one, or you do the things needed to convert the turbo box's clutch arrangement over to push. Which is a bit of a f**karound. "Making" a custom tailshaft is the easy part. But you will need to source the front clip yoke - the bit that goes into the output of the gearbox. These are not as easy to find. They are out there, but they don't grow on trees the way that they used to.
    • Indicator bulbs are way too bright to use as a "corner marker" (we call them parking lights too). Sure. Go ahead and do it. But realise that you wil need to come up with all your own wiring to do it, as no-one will have a standard howto worked out for Skylines. It's just a matter of abandoning everything that Nissan have done and starting from scratch. You'd probably be better off retrofitting tailght/brakelight globe bases into the front indicator housings and using the taillight circuit for your corner marker and the brake light as the indicator. You'd need to work out how to kill the marker circuit while the indicator is flashing, otherwise it won't flash on-off, just bright-less bright.
    • Hi. A little bit of an update. It maybe(hope not) looks like i would need a new tranny(it would be "maybe" a cheaper or better option anyway) So i need some info. I know i need a different propshaft(i can make custom one) LSD is not a problem cuz the engine will be still(for now) N/A RB20. So if i buy RB25DET NEO tranny...is there something else i need? I read something about push/pull type but i do not know if i need to "change" something or i can just plug n play onto my engine a go? Thanks for the advice
    • Good morning all, Bit of a random question but figured I’d finally throw it out after wondering for a long while. Before I start, I'm hoping to do this purely out of personal preference. I think it would look better at night, and don't mind at all spending a few hours and dollars to get it done. I've copied this from a non-Skyline specific forum, so I apologize for the explanation of our headlight switch setup that we all know. Here we go: Zero lights (switch off) Parking lights (switch position 1) being a rectangular marker on the outside of the housing, my low beam being the projector in the centre (position 2), and a high beam triggered by my turn signal stalk. Most North American cars I’ve owned of this era have power to the amber corner (turning indicator) light as part of the first switch (parking lights). I’d love to have these amber corners receive power when the headlights and parking lights are on (headlight switch), yet still blink when using the turn signal which is of course a separate switch. Hopefully I’ve explained my question correctly. Is anyone aware of a way in which I might be able to achieve this? Thanks in advance
    • My heads are cathedral port! It's likely possible, but I don't want to add any extra moving parts (I know they don't move) between the heads, manifolds, etc. It will also affect how injectors/fuel rails etc sit and I don't really know if it would change how the FAST manifold goes/sits/fits. I have the LS6 steam pipes already as I have a very late LS1 block so it should be fine. I couldn't find anyone who had ever actually used one for this purpose, it seems 100% of people grind the water pump. The thermal spacers are 12mm and are half way to the cost of the newer water pump anyhow... so if it comes to that I suppose I'd rather buy a new pump. The bearing in the pump I do have is a little.. clunky, but it hasn't done that much time and I never noticed it when the car was together in the past few years, so..
