kosmo90
Wheel bearings? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/432249-r34-whining-at-80kmh/#findComment-7035071 Share on other sites
niZmO_Man
probably, how could i cheak that? would it be a lack of diff oil or something messed up internallyIf it's only doing the while in one gear (e..g 5th) then you can point at the gearbox. If it's whining in whatever gear at that speed (e.g. drop it to 4th and 3rd) then it's most likely diff. Does it whine under load or all the time (e.g. lifting off going downhill)? gtsttrk
Wheel bearings? Yeah that was my first though when I saw this thread. I'd say check wheel bearings, though it does sound a bit strange that it's happening in a specific gear - in terms of wheel bearings. fyjosh
Measure the diff gear backlash and replace shims where necessary. Replace the oil. Although you could just be low on oil, it's best to do the job properly and check the clearances as the gears and shims wear over time. The pinion bearings may need replacing also, this is a bit trickier. Page34
ill see if it does it in other gears tomorrow on my way to work it doesn't sound to much like wheel bearings because when i load them by weaving left to right it isn't any worse what oil does it take do you know? epx 80w-90 or multitrax? BrewsterGTS4
I had this problem with my subaru. Eg. Is the same speed. Slower barely hear it. Faster gone. I changed the gearbox and it fixed the problem. Not sure if it was the gears meshing or the pinion gear. Id say that wheel bearings make a whirring noise not wining. Snd pinion gear id guess is the front diff. So I would say possible diff relation or gearbox. Hope this info helped.
