Just wondering if a Neo turbo is a direct replacement for a regular RB25DET in a 1996 stagea? I read the Neo turbo is not as hardy as the older series of turbo, but the Neo seems to be more available and priced low (I imagine its because they arent wanted) But if they fit, are they acceptable if you stay below 9 psi?

I wouldn't suggest that they are priced low. I would have said exactly the opposite, that because they have the OP6 exhaust housing they are actually in demand compared to R33 turbos. Having said that, even at $400 they're not what you would call expensive.

The only reason that you would consider them to be more fragile than the R33 turbo is that they have a plastic compressor wheel (which the later R33s had anyway). That is a little more prone to death than the alloy one.

The main cause of death is still the ceramic turbine falling apart if you spin them fast.

Yes, it is an upgrade, yes, keep it below 9 psi and you'll be fine (you could even run more - I'm running about 12 on mine - I'm sure it will either keep going for years and years or just crap itself totally this afternoon).

Thanks, so is it a direct swap, or are modifications required for fitment? Also assuming no change in the amount of boost I want to run, how will the stock ECU cope?

I have a neo turbo on my R33 on standard boost. It is a straight swap with no modifications. Standard ECU handles it fine

I have a HKS GT2535 for sale atm. Its a direct bolt on. Ball bearing cartridge in perfect condition with no bent or chipped fins. Has roughly 15,000kms on it over 6ish yrs. .64ar standard 6 bolt nissan dump pipe flange ns111 28 exhaust wheel with a 56 trim 69mm comp wheel from memory. 'Google it for definet specs'.

Good for 250kw atw's on 98 and 270ish kw atw's on e85. I Made 235kw atw' on 1 bar/14psi of boost 98 fuel many many yrs ago. Lol. Comes with all lines and will throw HKS dump in to for the right price. $900ono. Will by far out perform the op6 neo stocka and normal 25 turbo with ease with similar response. Pm if interested and will not disappoint for farrrk al more outlay to a stocka.

Could be a possibility, what rpm does it create useable boost from vs the stock turbos? How will it function with a standard ECU? Keep in mind Im not chasing power, the car is mainly a workhorse vehicle and so the stock response and low spool rpm is crucial.

It spools no different to a stocka and will be fine on s stock ecu set up on 9-10psi. Itll have a stronger midrange aswell. With room for improvement down the track if you wish. :)

Sorry to revive this but just interested to hear if there was any added lag or improvement switching to the NEO (OP6) turbine over the R33 turbo
