Hey guys,

I just wanted to say hi as a new member of SAU. I came from the land of s chassis (owned about 4 over 6 years) haha and only just saw the light to move onto r chassis, a black r34 gtt sedan in black, which i recently bought with a glorified slush box aka tiptronic auto.

What a transformation! The drive is so much more refined, cabjn noise is much less and the power delivery is so smooth and torquey. I am lovin it!

I recently finished a manual conversion myself following a few guides here, as well as the uk based skylineowners forum, which are a wealth of knowledge, so thanks guys!

I hope to return the favour by putting back some things i have learnt along the way about nissans.

Will upload pics in a tick

Thanks for the support people. As promised earlier, here are some pics.

The above pic shows the rims it came on and the car on stands halfway through the manual conversion.

I soon took it to one of sau's texikhana events and did this

A few days before the event, i decided to change the rocker cover gasket seals and half moons. I also gave it a service.

I stupidly put too much silicone on the half moons and they leaked, so i did it again. Things got pretty busy afterwards at home so i wasnt able to test it.

Thinking they were all good, i drove to the event i had prepaid for. I noticed after pulling into a servo that i had a decent oil leak. Luckily it wasnt enough to starve the motor of oil, but it was enough to smoke up the entire engine bay. I decided to drive it to the event and give it another go by re-doing it at the pits. Still no joy. Did a few skids then retired early.

Luckily one of the helpful guys at the event had a spare bottle of oil to top up for the ride home. Also had alot of offers of help, so cheers SAU guys!

When i got it home, i purchased a genuine nissan gasket set and genuine new half moons. The previous ones i used to change with were ebay spec copies.

After a few days, the genuines arrived, so i set out to do the job again. I noticed with the genuine, the seal was embossed except for where the half moons sat, allowing a good seal for the half moons and for the entire way of the head. The seals even sat in the rocker cover without falling off when i held the cover face down.

This would be the 4th time. As i was doing a check over, i noticed oil under the oil filter. I though that was strange, i serviced it not long ago! Then it occured to me that it was considerably larger than the one i pulled out. Doh! It was a z445! It was supposed to be a z442. Fixed this promptly and dropped the oil again to replace with full synthetic castrol sport 5w 30 and hasnt leaked since.

I sold the 17x9 zenkai drift wheels as they werent my cup of tea. I wanted bigger, so i bought some 350z anniversary rims and fitted them with a 5mm spacer. I noticed the previous owner installed 60mm extended hub bolts all around under the project mu lug nuts, so i will probably move onto using a 10mm spacer to fill the wheels out more. Effectively the wheels sitting on it now are f 18x8 +25 and r 18x8.5 +28.

I will be starting a members ride thread to discuss more technicalities with the skyline.
