So i got a new rb20det and its running standard 20det sidemount turbo , i want to put my t3t4 back on but its ennificient on a 20 kicking in around 4000-7000k i heard if manifold is shortened it will kick in quicker and be more effecient , is this true and is it worth it ?

idk i was just told this by a mate and i wasnt really paying to much attention but i would assume turbo manifold , i just want more boost out of it and i already have the turbo so it would be good if i could run that but have it kick in lower revs

yea stock manifold sidemount , thats what i was thinking but he said hes done it before and its a piece of piss so idk haha but it doesnt sound like something you would do i guess i would have to look into it more but i agree hacking into manifold doesnt sound logical haha

you can disconnect the actuator

Yep, easiest and cheapest way to unlock max boost, pull off wastegate line. (seeing as you got fairly confused about the manifold thing, that is a joke)

Tell whatever hybrid turbo you have. Buy a NEO6 turbo, it bolts straight on. Put the RB20 actuator on that and enjoy 10psi. It kicks in around 3,000rpm (probably a bit earlier if you had a full exhaust). Good for some fast driving, better fuel economy while putting around. Win win.

this applies to manifold pipe diameter, bigger pipe = more lag but some top end power, where as smaller pipe is more response but top end power is reduced

so stock manifold is more responsive due to smaller diameter pipe

you might have a boost leak or if not your running a r33 turbo/actuator for that 6psi

sounds like its normal for an ebay t3/t4 turbo (whatever that is who really knows) to spool extremely late on a 20. you cannot shorten the maniifold someones just talking crap to you. better off selling it and putting on an rb25 standard turbo. car will be like new car to drive, will be so much quicker and more enjoyable.

Op6 rear housing is a little big for a 20, considering you can't run a lot of boost through them I wouldn't bother, better of selling one he has and buying a 2530 or similar, at least will have the potential to make decent power and have great spool.

    • I’d love to find some where that can recover the dashes to look brand new and original. Mine has a very slight bubble, nothing compared to some I’ve seen though
    • $170K. I asked one of the guys there as a joke if that price was just for the passenger seat as it was where the price sheet was... he tried really hard to crack a smile 😄 He also mentioned that every single part of the car was inspected and either restored or replaced with a new or as new part, or made from scratch. The interior was incredible, every inch like a new car.
    • Time for a modernisation, throw out the AFM, stock O2s, ECU into the e-waste bin. Rip out the cable throttle, IACV, pedal, etc. into the scrap metal bin. DBW, e-throttle, modern ECU, CANbus wideband, and the thing will drive better than when it left the factory.
    • I agree, don't go trusting those trims. As I said, first step is to put the logger away, and do the basics in diagnosis.   I spend plenty of time with data loggers. I also spend plenty of time teaching "technicians" why they need to stop using their data loggers, and learn real diagnostics.   The amount of data logs I play with would probably blow most people away. I don't just use it to diagnose. I log raw CAN data too, as a nice chunk of my job is reverse engineering what automotive manufacturers are doing.
    • I'm aware, but unless you're actually seeing the voltage the ECU is seeing and you're able to verify the sensors are actually working I find it hard to just trust STFT/LTFT. I will say, logging the ECU comes naturally to me because it's one of the lowest effort methods of diagnosis and I do similar things in my day job all the time. Staring at 20+ charts looking for something that isn't quite right isn't for everyone. NDS1 allows you to log almost everything so that's normally what I do and then sort out the data later.
