Hey SAU,

I'm after opinions, do i need to do valve springs/retainers etc before my cars get to be tuned? Reason being it'll be smashing out 17 PSI all day, most days and obviously a low tune setup too. I'm thinking just hopefully the tuner is awesome and it doesn't go pop for a while, but i haven't done a compression test to see how it is anyway.

So basically is it safe to go 300kw + E85 on 17psi unopened? yes i can see the sticky thread about people doing it above, i'm just after those people who have and how has it gone? Did it go bang? Did you do springs etc?

Cheers guys!

You only need to worry about the springs if you were dropping in a set of cams as the extra lift might be to much for stock old springs to handle but if stock cams you dont need to touch anything just good tune.

Ran between 15-18psi on mine (mostly 16-18 over the last 3 years hahaha) for about 4 years and built up an insane amount of kms over that time, commuting, road tripping, driving like a dork, letting others drive like dorks, drag racing, a few laps of the track and the last time it hit the dyno it made it's highest ever number on that particular dyno - the last compression test was at around 170-180,000km from memory (GT3076R when on it at around 100,000km) was within 10psi across all 6. If the tuning has been and will be good and there have been no other issues (ie, triggering issues) which might cause detonation or whatever then it should be fine.

    • Just something I found searching for more info on Emotion R, apparently the ECR33 Skyline GTS25t was either originally black, or there were two of them, the black one being the original demo car, then building a white one which was part of the 1997-onwards (to at least 2008!)
