It's on a bracket and has wires coming out both sides, I'm not sure.

When I got the car there was also a round key, so I was thinking it could be a car alarm but I can see any key hole.

Excuse the pix, my phone went flat so I grabbed an iPad

Cheers

Daryl

I couldn't tell what that thing is. The car has been running more boost as it has a decent size intercooler on it, and an upgraded radiator. Also boost lines that are closed of makes me think it used to have a boost controller (possibly an upgraded turbo that has been reverted to stock. It could quite possibly be a car alarm? but you don't have the imoblizer for it so i don't know.

The car ran very nicely and with the upgrades already there it would be a good platform to start modifying. I suggested to do a comp test and/or a Dyno health check. And if all good mod away!

Hey richard get this... He has a nismo key for it! lol

I doubt that's a car alarm but I had a similar key on my commy an it turned out to be a lock on the car alarm box, the yellow thing on the bracket, your guess is better than mine, lol

This round key???

The yellow thing is the siren for the alarm!

That key is the same as my alarm key, used to silence it. if I go away and can't turn it off if a cat jumps on it, the alarm will be silent to not annoy the neighbors..

I silenced mine when it was being transported so it wasn't going off for 1500kms...

It's boosting about stock 7psi , what's keeping it at that, I've no idea.

Daryl

with no boost controller the stock actuator is about 5psi, so if its 7 it has some sort of boost control.

an R32 actuator runs about 10-11.

Its the stock solenoid which gives 7psi after 4k rpm, which is disconnected.

have a look at the hoses i mentioned before and see where it runs.

The reading may have been slightly out but it 100% wasn't running more than 7psi (5 might be what it is actually running). There was definately no boost controller as such that i could see. When you take it in to get the testing done just ask a mechanic about it. They will be able to have a peak in more detail.

The vacuum lines run into the cabin but id say thats for the gauge as i had a look for a controller and could not find anything.

might have an in cabin controller hidden under the dash or something.

Daryl, this is what the actuator looks like, which we believe is setting your boost level.

It will be mounted just in front of the turbo with the arm attached to the turbo.

left is from an R32 (10psi), Right is R33(5psi)

Does it have an aftermarket Boost Gauge in PSI? or is the 7 a reading from the stock Gauge which is measured in Neptunes of Uranus or some other stoopid scale.

When Jeremy's had untamed boost it was reading 7. But was VERY UNHEALTHY. Pinging like a Teenager with a pocket full of uppers. :P

After Market and there are 2 of them I'll have a closer look an see if they both measure the same thing, 2 boost 1 monster tachometer that changes colour, I'll get the brands.

I contorted myself in all sorts of positions only a yoga guy should try looking under the dash both sides, and all I learned, the hard way as usual is your thumb is the only digit with an artery, so no stitchers, they use superglue to stick my thumb shut, waste of an afternoon, but while waiting I remember something else , I have a snake cam I got last year an forgot about, so tomorrow I'll go exploring the easy way.

Knew it would come in handy eventually.

Cheers

Colonoscopy?

ok, so perhaps the 5psi actuator + cooler + Exhaust may be free enough to give 2 psi extra...

I have heard claims of it, but it sure never happened for me.

Edit* Hard to tell from the pics but maybe the stock boost solenoid is half connected and is bleeding off that extra 2 psi but not back into the Bov return like it should. :/

    • All I can say Duncan is good luck and I hope that Neil did not run any E85 in Cheryl. I have recently experienced the full spectrum of fuel tank issues in my R33's that had been caused by E85 and contaminated fuel. When you take the cover off the top of the tank and have a look inside you will get an understanding of how easy it will be. Best case situation is clean fuel with minimal contamination. My GTR was like this and it was a very simple operation to just grab the fuel pump carrier bracket and slide it up and out of the tank. My three GTS_T's had different levels of fuel contamination that was probably caused by E85 in the fuel.  In the worst case all of the metal components in the tank had rusted to the point where there were pieces of rusted metal swirling around in the tank. This required the removal of the exhaust, the tailshaft, the complete rear cradle and the fuel tank. The components in the tank were that rusted that it took days to get the fuel pump carrier and the mounting brackets out of the tank. When the tank was finally cleaned, everything inside the tank had to be replaced. With the tank all back together I could then reinstall it in the car along with everything else that had to come out. Good luck and I hope that you find a clean tank.
    • It is a two door. It is black and also still has the OEM wheels and stereo. Exact model would be KR_R32RGFEL_SS According to GTR-Registry.com is a 2 Door Coupe; RB20DE; 2WD no HICAS; MT.F5; (11L) Projector Headlamps and Fog Lights; (12_) Electronic Active Full Auto Air Con (Climate Control); (13-14SS) V Selection -- Which seems to be accurate description of my variant. Will try to upload a few pictures soon. The OEM wheels look like the below image. Image is taken from the goo-net-exchange website.
