Hello everyone!
I have an S14 and I am looking to buy a safer seat, more suited to Motorsport use. The current standard seat isn’t that bad overall, but I know it’s not very safe. I use the car for Drifting and I am looking to enter the Victoria Super Sprint series or something similar to this, as well as Motorkhana events or anything else that pops up – multipurpose car. Also my daily driver for the moment too.

I am 180cm tall and 55kg in weight, last time I checked my torso and legs were pretty equal in length.

At the moment, I am interested mostly in Sparco seats, a friend of mine runs a small business selling Motorsport supplies and is a Sparco dealer, so I would like to buy from him. But of course I have heard good things about Sparco seats too.

I’ve looked at a few seats, but mainly the new Ergo. It has removable head supports so shouldn’t be too bad on the street, then I can add the side supports when I am at the track. They come in 3 sizes, so should be able to get one to fit me well (I am going to sit in an Ergo medium next week).

Does anyone have a suggestion of other seats to look at for my size/car/situation, any overall things to look at when choosing a seat, or any reviews?

Thanks very much.

Also looking at Pro2000, seems to be a popular seat and the sizing is OK, although a little wider than the Ergo which might be a problem for me.

The Rev looks good, skinny in width but seems to be a bit more shallow (less 'bucket') and less shoulder wrap-around too.

Finding a seat that is right for you is the challenge - many seats look good but when you sit in them they do not fit you and are not comfortable.

Your biggest issue is going to be finding a seat that is narrow enough to hug your body and stop you from moving sideways in the seat. I am 75kg and 180cm tall and I had great trouble finding something narrow enough to lock myself in.

Set yourself a price point as well as some seats cost over $2k which is hard to justify unless you are made of money.

I run R33 and R32 GTR seats as everyday seats and OMP WRC seats for track days etc. Another thing you may have to consider is a quick release for your steering wheel as with a well fitting seat you may have difficulty getting in and out with the steering wheel in place.

Good luck with your search and make sure you spend time sitting in seats from many suppliers before you select one.

Thanks for your input!

I thought it would be difficult finding a seat which fits me well - I thought I might have to add some extra kidney padding or similar, something to lock me in.

I was originally drawn to the Ergo because the small size is a bit smaller than the Pro2000 - I sat in a Pro2000 and it was a bit big.

A quick release is a good idea, I'll look into that when I change my steering wheel. I can afford the Ergo, or anything under that really. I think that budget should find me something that fits.

I definitely do need to sit in some more though

The Sparco distributor is located at Emu Plains (2mins from Penrith) so next time you are up Sydney way spend an hour out with them and you can test out every Sparco seat that is available on the market.

Cheers, didn't know that!

Would they be able to help fit me up as well? I understand the shoulder height is very important for the harness to fit correctly etc.

Is that IKD? How are the prices?

I have pro 2000's in my car that I bought through a member on here. I'm 180cm/80kg and they fit me fine but at 55kg I think you might need something a little narrower.

Best option is just to have a sit in everything you can.

Its not a good idea to buy them blind, you really need to sit in the seats to work out whats comfortable for you but make sure you know your maximum width because S13/S14's standard seats are very flat and pretty narrow. I originally intended to buy a Pro2000 for my S13 as I'd seen them in the same car and when I sat in one I found it a bit tight for me so I ended up with a EVO L (EVO 2 now) which just fitted.

Cheers

Stu

    • Hey @Butters, did you end up getting this clutch in ? I have just ordered to a uniclutch track to go in my getrag 6 speed that’s in my BNR 32
    • I know you don't want to hear this comment, but I can't not say it.  I just can't see 200kw being worth the time and effort. Its like guys with NA cars, putting in headers/exhaust/tune for a massive 20% jump in power. Great, the slow car is still slow and you're down $10,000.  My vote is leave it NA or price in a gearbox upgrade and shoot for at least 300KW, preferably 350KW+.  Now you have a NC that will try to kill you from time to time and will be exciting to drive
    • Ah yep. The main message I want to pass on is, try not to get scared of ghosts when thinking about knock/knock detection.  What I mean is, healthy engines make noise. Knock is also noise. Your knock sensor and ECU combo are trying to determine bad noise from good noise based on how loud the noise is. The factory knock sensors and ECU are not good at doing this.  Modern ECU's are pretty decent at it, however I'd still say that you would want to verify that if your ECU says it's knock, that you actually listen to it and confirm that it is correct.  Are you familiar with the plex knock monitor?  https://www.plex-tuning.com/products/plex-knock-monitor-v3/ I expect you're the type of person that would be very keen to play with something like this. It is great knock detection and you can pop some headphones on and listen to what's going on.  Knock that you've deliberately induced in low load low RPM areas is not really putting anything at risk and is a great tuning/learning/verification tool.  I just thought this was worth mentioning based on the way you were talking about setting up a base map and the Haltech base map settings. There are better ways to spend your time then chasing ghosts and worrying about detonation in scenarios that it is crazy unlikely to encounter it.  I was also wondering, what ECU are you planning to get? Will it be long til you pick it up?
    • This came quicker than I thought. It ain't even 2025 yet.
    • I somehow quoted my post instead of editing it. I regret nothing.
