Hi guys,

I have searched and read a bit but the most relavent topic I found just had people listing which oil they use. There is no mention of which diff, internals etc.

I have an HR31 with a tired R200 Longose LSD, I have purchased a Nismo LSD rebuild kit which will be going in to tighten it up. It will most likely see more weekend driving than anything but I intend to do more drag nights at WSID and more track days in the coming year. Is there any specific type of oil I should use once the new LSD kit is in?

Thanks in advance.

I just got a Kaaz 2 way installed by Award diff and gearbox in sydney. Very happy with it by the way.

It came with oil..... BUT it doesnt last too long, it breaks down with the flogging it gets from the clutches. Especially on track day.

They advised me that there is basically 2 types of oil for lsd diffs:

1. the good stuff which has the friction modifiers bonded to the oil molecules - i cant remember which brands though >_<

2. the ones that basically have the friction modifier poured into the oil, wont last half as long before its stuffed and you need an oil change.

Any way the girl on the phone sure knows her stuff.

Its readily available in NZ from Nissan or from Motul dealers (its made by Motul). If your local Nissan dealer doesn't have it they should be able to order it for you as its specified for the latest GTR.

This is the Motul version:

and this is the Nismo (it is a slightly higher spec):

Quick look on Ebay reveals an Aussie supplier:

Thanks for the info. Been doing some research too. The nismo stuff is proving hard to find

Penrite equivalent of the Motul 75/140.

May be easier for you to get. Alot of the newer cars with lsd's use this grade

    • OK. But what about parts of the block that, when assembled, were twisted into a position that pushed into the void space, which, when disassembled, then released that force and opened back up, thus putting the grout into tension? Would effectively just pull the cast iron off the grout at the interface, leaving a tiny void and benefitting not much at all. Swings, and roundabouts. It's like putting something tiny into the fleshlight and finding out you needed a smaller one, to perhaps follow your area of expertise.
    • Nah. You buy a kit that has shorter tubes.
    • I didnt present too many conclusions because I wanted your opinions and feedback based on your own experiences. I don't know the exact material, but it is similar to concrete and therfor only has valuable strength in compression. The forces on the set material once the head is removed would mostly be in compression since the grout wants to retain its shape and the block wants to return to its relaxed state since it's still within the elastic region. The grout would theoretically make the block more rigid. The exact amount would take a better setup on my end. Thought experiment: Instead of aliens, twist your favorite fleshlite. Now fill it with grout and allow it to sit for a week. Now try to twist it again. Observe what you see. Now get your other one and blow into it. Observe what you see. Now put it into a can and fill the space between your fleshlite and the can. After it sets blow into it. Less movement in torsion and less expansion i hope.
