Hey guys i seem to have run into a little bit of a problem whilst removing and installing my intake cam gear on my RB25DET. I read in the workshop manual that there is a "Shamfered Washer" between the bolt that secures the cam gear and cam gear. When i removed the cam gear there wasnt a washer in sight.

Can anybody tell me how this washer looks and what size it is? also am i able to put in any washer that is of the same/equiv size to the factory one.

Cheers.

Yeah it should go something like this:

Cam gear, washer, bolt, spring, VCT cover

I would buy one from Nissan because it isn't a standard size washer. I would say it needs a set load on the spring for the VCT to work properly so if you use a washer that is to small the VCT will not work properly

Makes sense. Because a pulled it apart to install the hks cams and upon reassembly I noticed there was something missing and not in my parts tray. Looks like the previous workshop made a right ass of themselves.

Cheers 89CAL

Also... what sort of torque setting does the bolt require?

oh yeah, don't be a tool like me and rattle gun it on.. I got my VCT cam gear stuck for a while and the VCT switching wasn't working.. after a few days it started working again..

yes yes, laugh at me.

Yeah nah a torque wrench is by my side at all times when it comes to shit like this. Rattle gun for everything else.

Not very surprised with the workshop who left the washer out. I seem to be finding shortcuts the deeper I go.
