Gday everyone,

for all those guys that have been there done that im wondering what your thoughts are on having either 16 or 17 inch wheels for the track and drifting.

Im guessing 16 inch would be cheaper however im looking a decent tyre selection too. I know it doesnt matter for rear tyres when drifting however have wondered if a miss match in rim size ie 16 inch cheapies on the rear to 17 inch decent tyres on the front will be a problem.

I know it also depends on brakes but im pritty sure the car i just brought (R32 GTS-T with RB 25) has Z32 brakes so 16 inch shouldnt be a problem to clear them.

Thoughts?

Either would work. Id go 17s if you're packing some decent hp as you'd need better quality tyres. But if you arent id go 16s and buy a few sets of cheaper tyres. Miss matching won't matter either.

Thanks for your response mate, i was thinking 16s for the rear for when drifting with cheap tyres. then a decent set of 17s for track work and on the front when drifting.

Sounds like this will work, cheers!

I like to run "track offset" wheels at all time street and drift. 17 x 9 +22 up front and same for the rear but with 30mm spacers. Im getting my rears widened another inch on the outer hoop. You don't need to run spastic offset wheels up front or rear. Just a nice offset wheel with good width so it clears everything up front when on full lock. I run potenza re002 235/45 up front and kumho ecsta rear 235/45. They don't delaminate and wear all the way down nicely. Thats with 300kw at the wheels too.

I haven't done grip driving yet so I can't say what rubber I run. But I like to keep it as street as possible
