crazydon
I am like many people a fan of the R34 GTR and finally have the money to buy one. I went to Edward Lees this week to look at what they had and I asked the following - Can you give me a dereg for the car ? - They said no as they did not import it but they said they complied it and are selling it. I asked about books - was told Jap cars never come with books - Is this true ? The sales guy started to get a bit upset when I kept asking questions about the k's on the car as the drivers seat was worn & the steering wheel was a bit so so. When I asked if I could get the car inspected by a skyline specialist he said it could not leave them and they could not use a hoist to check it out. He suggested stateroads to inspect it. Anybody have any idea how good state roads is on inspections ? or suggest somebody who can do the inspection for me ? I just do not want to buy a bad one as I am spending every cent I have saved for the last 4 years. JH32
I just do not want to buy a bad one as I am spending every cent I have saved for the last 4 years. There are plenty of R34 GTRs for sale, why risk buying one that you're not entirely happy with. scotty nm35
Doesn't sound like they want your money, as you seem to know what you are looking for... I bought my Stagea from an importer, they showed me the auction papers (whatever that is worth) and allowed me to inspect the car on their hoist for underbody damage and rust. If they didn't allow at least that there is no way I would be buying a Japanese import. I have seen too many rust buckets from the salted roads. Open pod/air filter and check for oil in piping, also check all intercooler pipes for rusting. If your not allowed to inspect the car you buying, I'd say your better off going else where Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/433851-first-time-gtr-buyer-looking-at-edward-lees/#findComment-7076163 Share on other sites
Cherry Racer
If you can handle the wait, use a trusted broker to import one from japan or get one from a known source. Too many bad stories about dealers on Parramata Rd (and other places). If a deal is too good to be true then it probably is. Nice clean low km cars pull good money in japan. France
I would NEVER consider buying from that place! Steer clear, heaps of horror stories. Kenny80
I've had good results from state roads, highly recommended. IMO worth the $$ spent for an inspection. When booking, I requested for someone experienced with imports, I don't know if they actually followed through with my request but never had a problem. As for the business you have mentioned, doesn't sound appealing at all. I bought from an interstate broker/seller and they allowed me to use anyone to inspect (I used state roads), they provided by email all auction reports, log history, pretty much anything (many different angle pics/docs) I asked for. As I bought whilst the car was in transit from JP, They also allowed me to cancel the deal if I wasn't happy with the inspection report or the car. I think that's the kind of flexibility/service you'd expect from someone trying to sell u a car. RBrennan25
There are plenty of R34 GTRs for sale, why risk buying one that you're not entirely happy with. Too true Just to throw my 2c in, I used Edward lees to import my car (I found it personally in Japan at the auctions and just paid them to import it to save on hassles) and when I went to their yard to pay them after I'd bought the car they were very pushy on trying to sell me cars they had in their yard, even cars completely different from the one I actually asked for. I also organised that when they brought it in to the country they would fit an immobiliser and put new tyres on it cos I got told from Japan the ones on it were worn below the limit. When the car arrived they called me to come pick it up and nothing had been done. So round 2. I came to pick it up the next time and the tyres still weren't done!! And they lost the spare key for it. So in conclusion I would probably steer clear of them. Most car sellers are dodgy to an extent but anywhere that won't let you inspect the car clearly shouldn't get your money. Be patient and find the perfect car, it'll be worth it Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/433851-first-time-gtr-buyer-looking-at-edward-lees/#findComment-7076593 Share on other sites

GTR-34A
I have used state roads, have also heard good things.. they found the car i was looking at had been resprayed at the front, and believed there had been an accident but couldnt go into it much further unfortunately.... my advice though, get it checked out by someone more specialised, and on a hoist, i used Japlink motors myself, couldnt have been happier. ps, mine might be for sale in the next few months if yellow tickles your fancy, still tossing it up but it may have to go. pm me if interested. BoyWhoCriedWolf
Two very reliable, trustworthy, product proven suppliers: Primo on here. Phil Cathcart, Direct Imported. Bought heaps of vehicles through him, always good. Iron Chef on here. Havent used Kristian's services but have heard nothing but positive references from his customers. Edward Lee's, just don't. The Baron
Get the car you want. The only way I found to do that and that met my budget and expectations was to use an import broker. They have access to far more stock then any local dealer. I used Iron Chef and got a great clean, genuine example with logbooks at a fair price. The only downside is the three months wait - but boy is the anticipation worth it when you finally pick up your car....... You get what you pay for and there are no 'super cheap bargains'. Just my 2c Cheers The Baron Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/433851-first-time-gtr-buyer-looking-at-edward-lees/#findComment-7077614 Share on other sites
