Rolls
Went to the movies so didn't get around to dropping the exhaust however when idling in my driveway I noticed a rattle coming from the door, then I realised it was the cat that was rattling, guess what I am doing tomorrow? Project broomstick and hopefully all shall be resolved! BlindspottNZ
the missing marks on the harmonic balancer - probably from the plastic timing cover sitting abit too low and rubbing on it (assuming they were painted on and not indented), you can see two different rings of color around the back circumference, looks like it lines up with the timing notch on the cover... RB2600
Make sure your car is at operating temp when adjusting ignition timing. Adjusted my ignition timing after advancing the intake cam gear while it was cold last time and the car drove like crap all throughout the rev range. Drove around for half an hour today and stopped over to adjust it back to 20deg BTDC - It was advanced by 5 degrees. It's running perfect again now. Also someone mentioned taking the inductive pickup from connecting a HT lead to #1 coil pack and spark plug. Today I purposely tried comparing the two methods (This and the rear loop method) and there was no difference. However I still think it's good practice to use #1 cylinder. Rolls
It is really easy to just cut a piece of wire and coil one end around the sparkplug, then put the insulated end at the top and just leave it there. RB2600
shouldn't need to cut it, i used an old honda b series spark plug lead and it's direct plug and play Edited October 30, 2013 by RB2600 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/433938-car-down-on-power-over-entire-rev-range-causes/page/3/#findComment-7086413 Share on other sites
Rolls
Booked in to have my cat replaced tomorrow and now the car feels fast again, haven't changed anything so no idea why it is working now? shouldn't need to cut it, i used an old honda b series spark plug lead and it's direct plug and play Cut what? I just put a spare bit of wire in there and left it, nothing to plug and play as I will just leave it there forever now. Ben C34
You put wire where? Your meant to put a lead between the coil and the plug, which leaves the coil flapping so its obviously temporary. Rolls
I got a piece of electrical wire and skinned one end of it, I then made a loop of wire on that end and looped it around the sparkplug head, then I put the coil pack over the top and bolted it in Simple and costs nothing! Rolls
Here is a picture, no need for using anything fancy, just use a scrap piece of wire and it works fine! Missileman
I wouldn't leave the wire attached to the plug just in case it shorts on something, did you check to see if your timing light correctly reads from the loop at the harness? If it does then there's no need to use the sparkplug lead method at all. Rolls
I have a neo so there is no igniter module, the wires go straight from the ECU to the coilpacks (with built in ignitor). It can't easily short out as the end of the wire has tape on it, and the sparkplug end is stuck inside the coilpack rubber.
