Hey my mate got an r32 gtst the other day and we are Having trouble with the Parker lights, the Parker lights come on when key is turned on accessories and does not come on when you turn the switch on, I had a look behind the dash cluster to see any sign that it was tampered with but all seems normal, its not switch because with out the dash cluster plugged in and surround with the switch not plugged in it still happens, however the plug that plugs into the park lights and drive lights looks to be a slightly melted and black on two plugs as if there is a short somewhere. note that it is not blowing fuses Opinions?

When you refer to "parker lights", are you including the rear park lights, front park lights and dash lights all coming on? and then all going off when the switch turned on?

Sounds like a earthing problem.. Do the low beam and high beam all work correctly? What happens when the key is out of the ignition and you try turn the park lights on?

Yes when the key is turned to accessories the dash lights come on Parker lights front and back and that beeping sound, and when key is off it all turns off, when key off an you turn Parker's on from the switch there's nothing turn the switch again and driving lights come on

Because of the low current draw on the park light circuit, a short can light up the parks tails and dash quite easily.

I would try an isolation test. I am not sure how the lights are wired but - have the key on and the park light switch off.

I would start in the engine bay - find the plug nearest to the drivers side parkers and unplug it. What happens? Plug it back in and try the passenger side. What happens? Now try both the tail lights one side at a time, noting what happens then plug them back in to try the other side (should be behind the material in the boot) If no plugs are found, remove the globes instead (careful - hot)

When you turn the switch on for park lights, do they glow slightly brighter?

Voncina I tried what you said and nothing also the driver headlight is not working have changed the globe still nothing got a test light on it and no power to the plug but when I pull the stalk it had power, I had a similar problem with mine but ended up being I had to change the dash cluster and it fixed up but I also had no rpm signal and temp gauge so can't be that I'm thinking the old owner hooked the turbo timer and or electronic boost gauge up wrong causing a short maybe? We have traced the loom back all seems fine and there is power at the fuse box also

I highly doubt that if something like an ebc or turbo timer is wired incorrectly in the dash would somehow affect only the drivers side headlight.

If you have tested at the stalk and are getting power there, and none at the light, chase the harness back from the light, checking for any wear on plugs, harnesses - where they go through grommets are usual bad spots. If the passenger side is working, and the drivers is not - find where the harness T's off for the passenger side/drivers side and the fault will most likely be between the T and the faulty light.

Hope I am helping.

Update, I pulled turbo timer out and electronic boost gauge and head unit out to find the Parker light problem, the boost gauges power source was coming from the headunit as there is a Parker wire (blue/red) witch is ilumination for factory headunit and they had tapped into this causing the Parker's to have power when the key is in on position, however I still have the driver side headlight not working

    • Meh, At 60 years old, I have been doing dumb stuff for much longer than you mate, I am the true King And unfortunately I cannot be a maroon, as I am not brownish red As for not getting ITB's, the plenum intake will apparently show typical gains across the board and increase induction noise a bit, but, have all over less dort than ITB's Cost difference for the extra ITB dorts was significant though, the total parts for the plenum set up is "around" $2kAUD plus shipping, the ITB's were $4kAUD plus shipping, I was contemplating really hard about paying the extra $2k for all of the dorts, but weirdly, some form of common sense, from listening to the platform experts prevailed  As for the NA mod hate by some, I've had a few boosted cars, with all their inherent issues, I'm now looking at simplicity and legalities for a street car, maybe I'm just getting old, and I'm quite happy to spend some of the kids inheritance, 5kw at a time 🤣 And think of all the money I'll be saving on consumables that something with boost needs, like engines, gearboxes, diffs, clutches,  tilt trays... etc. etc. etc. 🤪
    • Haha.  I wouldn't say I am either but I've definitely been around it plenty.  I'm guessing you know the dial in is basically to make a handicap to level the playing field between racers.  The car with the slower dial in goes first and in theory if they run their dial in time and the faster car also does then they cross the finish time if they also have exactly the same reaction time - if you go faster than the dial in them you lose, but if you are too slow there's a good chance the other person will get to the finish line first. I'm normally supporting other cars but they were all pretty dialled and were egging me on to race as well, here's one of the cars I tune (Starlet) which ran within like 1 hundredth of its dial in through the competition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inEBu-d9Gn4&t=69s
    • Where ever the fuel reg gets it reference is what I use to T into for map reference been a very long time so where it goes to plenum/runners I have no idea but never had issues.
    • What ecu? Same shop every time? Same ambient temperature? If timing is correct then pull plugs and see if lean or rich. Dyno can also read different if they have changed ramp rate or not set tacho/speed properly
    • I've never done dial in's just straight up, whatever that's called. I'm far from a drag (racing ) expert.
