Mick_o
Oh the lols only do the Getrag if you do the 3.545 diffs as well, 1st gear in my 34 is now and always was useless even when it was a 2.6 with -7s, so add 4.11s to that and you may as well stay with the 5 speed as you won't use first with the Getrag I can't wait to see the difference between 4.11s and 3.545s with the two identical OS88s once put side by side I plan on being there for that event! Piggaz
Well the box will be the same. So advantage/disadvantage there. 1/4 mile. Sure. I wonder if your trap speed will improve much? XKLABA
actually the Getrag is heavier then the 5 speeder so the advantage is on my side there by a couple of kgs I'm hoping the longer first will get me off the line better and with the shift cut setup my ET should improve but doubtful my MPH will increase much, car is just to heavy Needs more powahs Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/434449-os-giken-5-speed-vs-ppg-straight-cuthelical-cut-dog-gears-vs-sequentials/page/8/#findComment-7452999 Share on other sites

boobeedoobee
Ok well I've decided on the box I want and it's a ppg helical dog as like you piggaz highway driving with a 5th straight cut would do my head in. But would I have the same problem as with the os box regarding the taller gears that the ppg comes with? Sorry my set up is a an unopened rb26 which I'm about to put hks gtss turbos in.. XKLABA
If you are only going to run GT-SSs and no more, source a Getrag and 3.545 diff gears, much nicer to drive and plenty strong enough for the power a 2.6 with GT-SSs can put out Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/434449-os-giken-5-speed-vs-ppg-straight-cuthelical-cut-dog-gears-vs-sequentials/page/8/#findComment-7453520 Share on other sites

GTR_JOEY
You know you can rebuild the box with new syncros for 1100-1200 bucks inc labour Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/434449-os-giken-5-speed-vs-ppg-straight-cuthelical-cut-dog-gears-vs-sequentials/page/8/#findComment-7453527 Share on other sites
boobeedoobee
You know you can rebuild the box with new syncros for 1100-1200 bucks inc labour Yeh but if I pull it out I would like to make it stronger. . The car does get used a lot for motorsport especially hillclimbs some 1/4 runs and the occasional track day ..
