What is it you disagree about?

I'm not here trolling, I've had a few gtr's in my past and I totally agree that 5-10 years ago they were unbeatable and other people would attempt to GP you not because they thought they could win but because they wanted to see what your car was capable of.

The GTR's back in the day had a heap of power compared to everything else, they now only have traction and weight on their side and have long been overtaken in the horsepower area by stock family cars.

I disagree with the horsepower statement, i think the RB26 is still up there if you were to compare true rwkw numbers, the new 325 315kw fpv or hsv whatever maybe higher. The only thing against the rb26 is ageing 20 year old engines in the r32, which ive had no troubles with yet fingers crossed.

Stock RB26 = ~170rwkw

Stock 6.0L v8 = 210rwkw

Stock 6.2L v8 = 260rwkw

Modifications is a moot point as they both respond fairly equally to modifications (except the current generation v8's and I6T's will handle quite a bit more horsepower in a stock bottom end) it really comes down to less weight and better traction for the R's.

The advantage of a gtr, is that it's a gtr and they have built up a reputation that proceeds them. Nothing puts a smile on my dial more watching someone's face drop as a 25 year old car flies past their 'supercar'. Can't blame people for trying though

Silly debate. They are all cars with 4 wheels but that's where comparisons end. Too many variables.

That's where the track and classes sort it out.

On topic. Yes locally the number of numnuts lining up and racing on the streets has declined I think. At least in this town.

Although I still get the occasional ghetto ford or holden attempting to race my GTR (Bogans). 99.9% of the time I let them go and they're disappointed.

I will give it a short blat for young impressionable folk and it brings a smile or thumbsup. RBGROWL. I also like the roar of the older V8's - it is a magic sound.

Seeing a badge with 317kws is the one makes me smile every time lately.

You can profile people by their vehicle (sort of like pets looking like their owners)

An enthusiast appreciates any well turned out car. Stock or blown.

Racing strangers off the lights is for the young/dumb !

Edit: Skylines have lost ground and part of it's mystery go quick, Although the GTR badge still appears to retain respect.

So your comparing an1980s design / small capacity six cylinder against a late model v8 with more than twice the displacement?

Apples n oranges yeah?

Yeah, I'd say Nissan thought so too. Then the R35 came along... Let them have their displacement

No way, these new family cars are still fairly slow. Most of them are like >1.75tons and only put out about 170-180kw. And those are the expensive ones. R32 GTR's would still leave >95% of cars on the road in dust.

Fairly slow yes but only due to lack of traction and a higher vehicle weight as I mentioned above a few times.

I gave you accurate power figures above and no not the expensive 1's the stock standard v8 or i6T models.

Yes they still would leave 95% of cars for dust, for the first 100 metres, after that it is purely horsepower.

I've been a proud Skyline owner for all of three weeks now ;-)

All I've done to my R-32 is take the boost restrictor out and I dyno at 196 rwkw - which is plenty for me.

Are there more powerful, faster stock family cars nowadays ?? Ofcourse there are. Will they beat me ?? Ofcourse they will.

But in the end - I am driving an R32 Skyline GTR VSpec 2 - and they are not - and I know who has the bigger smile :-)

For the comparison to be valid however, I would contend that the R32 should be measured against the cars of its era and if you want to throw in a VF-GTS, the accurate comparison is against the GTR of the day - which is the R35 - and we all know who wins.

BTW in terms of dollars - this comparison is still justified when looking at the prices of 1994.

The GTR was and remains an 'Apex' technology car.

Just my 2 c

Also dollar for dollar you're better off with a skyline if you want go fast. You can buy a HSV or FPV or whatever for what, like $80000? Or you could buy an R34, forge the bottom end put a single turbo on it and tune it to E85 and you'd easily have over 400awkw in a lighter car for the same money. Also those V8s handle like yachts

I'm from Bankstown!!

One thing ive noticed here, ever since the turbo restrictions, is a crapload of late 90s civics and pulsars full of p-platers who try out-penis each other with their awesome "flooring it" in first and second skills

On friday was on the M4 with my 35, and some dopey ass red p-plater did three fly-bys in the space of a few mins, with me doing a constant 110. He would just slow down then go around me, nearly falling over on the side in the process. The retard was on a mission to impress me with his triton ute.

I thought, meh, dont care, youre not worth my time and energy. Pretty much the same with most people who wanna race. Dont give a sh*t, i enjoy my cars in my own way, got nothing to prove to random tossers

I dont know where your getting your comparisons from but from what ive seen, a gtr will not fall behind even in a rolling start, im not being biased towards turbos here, ive had V8's and switched to turbo a couple years back but the aussie V8's are just muscle cars not performance cars they will not match in any way shape or form, they really only perform well as dyno stars.

The OP didn't ask for a dollar vs dollar comparison, or a 1994 vs 1994 comparison, or a cubic capacity comparison the question was why don't people traffic light gp skylines anymore (ie in any make/model of car) and the answer is because they are no longer miles in front anymore (GTR's only, GTS-t's and GTT's lost that battle years ago) and other cars have caught up majorly in certain areas.

Have you ever pulled up at a set of lights and had an Evo want to run you only to put down your window and say "sorry mate but I only run against other cars made with a 2.6L twin cam twin turbo engine otherwise I wont get any street credit".

Mate i replied directly to this topic stating what had happened to me followed by an opinion of mine, your the one that started this Jdm adm thing by replying to my reply. We'll agree to disagree, allow the OP his thread back. No hard feelings.

there is truth in this

Well then we could argue that no one bothers to race GTR's anymore because they know if they've spent as much money on their skyline as they have just buying their enormous road going boat they'll get beaten?
