I very rarely line up with the intention of Smashin'em with my Full Hektikness as I am not a Fast'n'Furious wannabe and am not interested in drawing unwanted attention or being labled as another Import driving Hoon.

sounds like loser talk to me  shuddup and race kaaaarnt

The OP didn't ask for a dollar vs dollar comparison, or a 1994 vs 1994 comparison, or a cubic capacity comparison the question was why don't people traffic light gp skylines anymore (ie in any make/model of car) and the answer is because they are no longer miles in front anymore (GTR's only, GTS-t's and GTT's lost that battle years ago) and other cars have caught up majorly in certain areas.

Have you ever pulled up at a set of lights and had an Evo want to run you only to put down your window and say "sorry mate but I only run against other cars made with a 2.6L twin cam twin turbo engine otherwise I wont get any street credit".

dont belive he asked for any comparisons...sounds to me like he bought a GTR and he just came here too sook becuse nobody wants to race him...

Fairly slow yes but only due to lack of traction and a higher vehicle weight as I mentioned above a few times.

I gave you accurate power figures above and no not the expensive 1's the stock standard v8 or i6T models.

Yes they still would leave 95% of cars for dust, for the first 100 metres, after that it is purely horsepower.

No,

the first 100 meter is all about traction and gearing, after that is more about torq than hp. thats why a falcon f6 310 will beat hsv r8 317 anyday.

forced induction will always trump NA....its just science and physics and shit

Yeah No, If both cars are equal in weight and power then the winner would be the one who makes the most power/torque lower in the rev range.

I've seen plenty of lazy eights smoke turbo cars, the turbo cars usually come together at half track but are then chasing, then its revs and gearing.

There is a old guy who frequents WSID, he rolls in a well sorted old VT with a fairly standard 5.7 and a slush box, it will do 10.5 all night every night, yes it runs drag radials, has a stally and has been stripped, but the only real power mods are a big holley and a exhaust.

I don't know how much power it made, under 300kw I would assume, but it smoked my old boat (500hp manual on drag radials) every time I lined up against it, if it was over 1/2 mile I may have passed him, but it wasn't.

In the end it is only fair to compare if they are equal, other wise its like saying your 200kw 1400kg Skyline beat my 195kw at the spark plug 1800kg XR6 NA taxi.

All this crazy ranting has made me want a 6.0ltr VL, with a big stally running some big rubber doing some big fast and the flatulent wheel stands.

Disclaimer: Scotch is the devil

Back on topic, another thing I have noticed on the street is I'm not seeing as many UNIT stickers/ Southern cross stickers or mad hectic Monster energy stickers on back windows anymore (and I live in a very aussie beach town in Sydney)

2-3 years ago, every nutter in either

(a) A flat bed ute

(b) Commo or Falcon

Had at least 1 of these features.....

Actually don't see as many JDM as Fk etc etc Hella Flush stickers anymore either.

Saw a commo with a SKIN sticker across the back window parked in a brick wall last week, damned if I could work out how he managed that one

TL;DR

At the end of the day...forced induction always wins...

ok a NA 6lt v8 might beat a 2lt turbo..

.but a turbo 6lt v8, can beat an NA 6lt v8...

there's always a bigger fish, and the biggest fish are always FI ;).

Did he park it straight at least?

Nope, he ran over a hand rail first then angle parked it into the wall. . Its a busy foot path so lucky no one was taken out

He must of been speeding as he did a lot of damage for a 60 zone

At least he didnt wreck a skyline!

This is true

Just noticing some strange things whilst recently spending a little more time driving around in the GTR.

Remember way back when you'd be hard pressed to get a couple of days when there wasn't a story about street racers, hoons, speeders etc.

I recall personally the number of people who used to want to line me up at a set of lights for a bit of a go..

I even had someone in a WRX want to race me when on my GSXR some years ago... :ermm:

But I've been driving my mildly worked GTR around for a couple of years now, albeit not daily, but have really felt the difference and general increase in driving maturity on the roads lately. Result of increased Police presence possibly.

So is it a sign of the times or are people just choosing their races heh heh..

Do you get people wanting to race you when in your Skyline on the street often or at all ??

I have noticed the new Toyota 86's are getting cocky.

I agree to disagree, my point which may have been lost due to the alcohol I had consumed was it is all down to the power and how it is delivered.

Like a 500hp na vs a 500hp turbo, if they both weight the same and are typical in drive train.

Im not saying I dont like turbos, I am saying I like the car with the best power delivery between the two.

All it takes is a trip to the drags to make up your own mind.

Each to their own though.

Drink on.

You sir are quite the insightful genius, I'm hopelessly transparent sometimes.

I clearly did come on to a public forum to complain about the fact that no one wants to "recklessly street race" with me on our public roads. That is, after all, the only reason I bought I Skyline.

What other reason could there be to make such an irrational purchase.

I also bought some expensive polarised sunglasses once just to look more like U2's lead singer. It didn't really work, no one was fooled in the three weeks I wore them religiously, so I gave them to my pet hamster.

You'd think I'd learnt something by now. Thanks for waking me up. :geek:

I'm ni Canada and skylines aren't well known here ! But you should see the faces of the Lamborghini, Turbo Porsche and Ferrari drivers when all they see is the back end of the car. And one Lambo driver rolled his window down at the next light and said "Are those 2 baby seats I see in the back ? I can't believe how fast that Honda is ! " hahahaha

Ya they still want to race the Skylines here because they haven't learned to FEAR THEM !

funny too, when 2 skylines roll up to the light they both take off slow and together, to funny.

LOL

I have noticed a lot less wankers trying to race you because you have a road scraping import. Still happens though, when bogans buy WRXs and beaten up HSVs. I have very little interest in wasting my precious expensive fuel on them.

I have also noticed a lot of import drivers being more friendly to other import drivers. I have always been let in when changing lanes etc by other imports when driving the Skyline, I also let a slammed s15 in the other day and he made a point of putting his window down to give me a thumbs up.

I think in general there are a lot more import drivers that save it for the track, but the bogans will still be bogans and always want a go at the lights.

    • I had no transmission at all so I managed to find a big box manual gearbox from an R34 GTT for an insanely good price in EU. I converted it to push type which cost more than the transmission almost, with parts from Amayama! These engines are very strong and can put out decent power with a properly sized turbo. You can save on money from parts like pistons and rods, and invest those in the transmission and other parts. I suggest you join the RB20 Enthusiasts facebook group, plenty of info and almost daily posts there about 20DE/DET/Neo+T builds. (I hope I'm not breaking any forum rules by mentioning third party platforms, just trying to help the buddy out)
    • Yeah, having tried all of those methods including BBQ+recipro/hacksaw, I ended up buying a bush press kit under $150 that works well, like this: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/355967727167?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-154756-20017-0&ssspo=sfmmuhxgqhm&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=dJvnaZ11TB-&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY It basically has a range of pushers and cups with threaded rods between to press out a range of large bushes. The problem with any sawing solution is minimising damage to the subframe side, although it probably needs a quick sand afterwards no matter what solution you try due to damage
    • Hi. Thanks for the answer. I do not have instagram 😄 I too considering turbo the RB20DE NEO 🙂 But i think i upgrade the gearbox first or at least buy new.
