Just sold the line R33 GTS25T a few weeks ago. Only had full exhaust and pod changes.

Just bought a stock std auto 94 TT soarer 2 days ago.

I do miss the line, but Im amazed how quick these things are. It just pulls for a heavy car.

It feels quicker than the line. Im thinking that with a few basic mods like full exhaust, better intake, FMIC and good tuning these could pull 200rwkw.

Have any of you had experience with these cars???

I know they are more powerful but in reality are they quicker than the 25t if they are both std or with similar mods?

Had a drive in a R33 GTR completely stock and I think that on a rolling start, the soarer would only be slightly behind. Not sure if the torque are similar in both cars and not sure of the weight difference.

Will start going into a soarer forum to find out what they say, but wanted to find out your experiences first.

Yeah they're damn quick. I love the 1JZ engine (in both single and twin turbo form). They have 363Nm stock for the twin turbo and 378Nm for the single turbo, but soarers are fat bastards at around 1600kg from memory. The R32/R33/R34 GTRs put out 353/368/392Nm stock, but weigh between 1500kg and 1540kg depending on the model. The 25t is down at 294Nm, but they only weigh between 1360kg and 1390kg.

So yeah, they're not a bad match up for a rolling start, but from the line, the 4WD will be the deciding factor I'd say.

EDIT: just checked up the 89 GTR weight - it's down at 1430kg. That's a big difference from the 94 Vspec II weight.

Also, I forgot to mention that I'm comparing torque as all the kW ratings are 206kW and we know that that's not true. It's kind of dodgy anyway, since these are peak ratings. What would be nice is a single dyno chart of all the cars mentioned.

The new model TT Soarers 1jz's are quick.

I drove an older model 1jz auto soarer and it was quite gutless off the mark until boost got up, even then it didn't really pull heaps hard. At the time it felt a little slower than my VS 5speed V8 Commonwhore.

I ran a new model soarer stock as a rock when my r32 was making 152rwkw on 12.5psi of boost. Off the mark it was damn quick however I would still pull on it. A rolling run from 60km/h I would kill it even though his rev's were also up i.e not out of his powerband.

Saying that though the soarer was definately a little quicker than the average stocker (exhaust only) R33 or R32 when comparing apples to apples.

my current drive is a tt soarer factory manual ..its gotta be 1 of the best packages around ..bilstein non adjustable sus takes away the boat type feel ,blitz ss pod and blitz mufflers the 5 speed is as quick as the 2 R32 GTR`S ive had...doesn`t corner likem but its still a very quick car on std boost .....and the electric seats ,sunroof blah blah..a quick car with some luxury you can`t go past a tt soarer...

I've got no problem at all with auto cars so i can realistically see myself in a soarer one day.........i've been on the forums. what puts me off is how many 'how to fix common soarer' DIY's there are on every soarer site............

i get the feeling that once age catches upto them they are a bugger to fix cause of all the electric's in them.............

i dont know that from expereice though.....................anyone's thoughts on this??

wanna know how to launch these things?

put it to 2nd, put it onto normal gearbox mode, stall it up. then when u get off the brake flick the switch to power gearbox mode

this way it flicks back into 1st with nice power delivery from go

id have 2 agree these cars r nice

Just went into the ALSC site. Plenty of info. Seems the 1JZ is a very well built engine which can handle plenty without internal mods.

Like u said the electrics could be a problem, but possibly this is more with the V8s which have plenty electronic gizmo's.

300rwkw from standard internals is possible, even a bit higher. But you definitely need to replace the turbo(s)

Later 1JZ-GTE engines have the VVT-i, and the single turbo which gives them a bit more kick. I assume the VVT-I allows the lack of twins and smoother power delivery.

I think the V8's seem to have more problems because they have more gizmos than the TT. Makes sense I guess.

300rwkws wouldnt be impossible on std internals considering they have forgies already in them

Your right about cheap- bought mine for 16K on the road 94 model. Absolutely imaculate with 49K on the clock. Has done 5000km in the last 2 yrs.

soarers definately feel quicker than they really are i think? i dont really know why but they seem to!

friend of mine got a 93 tt auto and it was stock and he took me for a spin and it felt pretty damn quick for its size and weight. at the time i drove an S13 with ~200rwhp which would be pretty much a low/flat 13 second car, no way soarer would be close to that in stock trim, but it felt almost as quick from my perspective as a passenger. i guess maybe its the difference in power delivery, its very smooth and linear being larger capacity, more cylinders, and two turbos!

another friend has one, full turbo back exhaust system, hybrid FMIC, apexi boost controller, and apexi safc2, his got ~300rwhp on 1bar or so boost. ran a 13.5 best or so with this setup.

thats not a bad time, but its not awesome sortof thing. but my perspective is from a 13 flat S13, not an R33 GTS-T. my s13 made light work of similarly modded 33 gts-t's but never got to race a soarer.

yeh mate with the 300rwhp says the stock turbos are what lets em down, get rid of them and get a big single and then u can really have some fun with it =)

I have a 91 V8 GT Ltd and have had my share of small inexpensive fixes to do. Had it since 98 when I imported it and have done 100000 km and it still has the sweetest V8 I have ever driven. I was lucky enough to own an import company so got my pick of options with full leather and heated seats.

The ALSC site is pretty dull forum wise but has the best diy resources around, but don't forget planet soarer for it's great content., linked from alsc The blinky dash took just over an hour to repair with the right parts, and watch the power steering leaks as they are so cheap to fix, but could cost 240 for the alternator repair if the slip rings get too wrecked from the arcing when oil impregnates.

I have the best of all worlds with an auto 'line. a bombed manual 'line, a laser lynx "hot hatch" and the V8 luxobarge which really handles well lowered a little and with 17"s all things considered. For the money paid, there is no better affordable luxury driving so I see no need to go the turbo 6 which is a great machine in itself, but a bit too much of a compromise when the line has potential left to burn. i suppose not everyone wants the full car yard though :rant: but 300rwhp is no sneeze with that great toyota turbo six.

I remember blowing away an integra VTEC thing in all hot yellow and it was trying so hard, while I had the arm on the windowsill and the 7 speaker stereo pumping doing it reeealll casual. He was spewing.

Biggest tip....do the BFI intake mod and zorst and it really changes character in both turbo and V8

The soarer from a standing start isnt that good. When you hammer it when its already moving a bit, then its much better.

one of my mates has soarer with a huge t04 with 1.00 a/r housing (same turbo thats on my car) on a top mount manifold, has a full exhaust, fuel reg, fuel pump and runs around 1-1.5 bar

its prob got around 250rwkws (hasnt been dyno'd yet)

his latest mods to it is a supercharger thats located under the inlet plenum and a fmic

the supercharger runs an instant 5psi which he can now line lock it and do snakies up the road :rant: puts a grin to my face everytime

I own a 97 gts-t type m as well as a 95 tt soarer.

If you visit the site www.performancedirect.com.au you'll notice the 0-100 and 1/4 mile time of the soarer, as well as the skylines.

The skyline is definitely faster stock(just exhaust, cold air, 17 wheels...coilovers) if you drag the soarer (same mods) at both 0-100 as well as 1/4 mile.

The thing is with soarers, that people look at the peak power output and forget how much weight these things have on them.

my skyline on the weigh bridge was a 1300 flat. I account for this with the exhaust and the avs wheels reducing a bit of weight. The soarer on the weigh bridge was around 1600 kg.

keep in mind that these are both 2.5 L 6s. the main difference in power results from the different turbo setup. (twin turbo). With a larger turbo, both are able to put out fairly huge power, and in the end, the skyline will be faster because it's 300 kg lighter.

BFI helps for top end. The auto is a slug that is protected by the computer so drops torque for changes. there is a mod for the torque converter for higher stall and a mod for the internal controller that makes changes faster so the engine torque doesn't have time to drop. Read it on the planet soarer site. not too exxy either. Might cost $1K for the whole lot including trans service.
