statue
Hi guys I've got an R34 (Tiptronic Non Turbo RB25DE Neo) and when I rev, I notice a couple of things.. 1. It's ticking or clicking in the engine bay 2. It whistles on idle and more noticable when revving Whistling noise at 35 Seconds into the video. Please watch and tell me what's wrong with it. statue
you gotta turn up the volume to hear the whistling sound at 35 seconds sorry about the other noises of me fiddling around Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/434964-r34-clickingticking-and-whistle-noises/#findComment-7106735 Share on other sites
Bennis
I cant really hear the whistling noise, but the ticking sounds like sticky lifters. Not sure whether the n/a rb25 neo has solid or hydraulic, but I had essentially the exact same noise with hydraulic lifters in my old EF XR6 falcon. My noise would go away after oil had circulated through the lifters (or something like that I was told by the mechanic) but it was still rather annoying. You can use oil additives to quieten it down, Nulon makes one. A slightly thicker oil also helps. That said it could be injectors for all I know, but I cannot think of anything else. niZmO_Man
Maybe alternator whine? Is you radio on during that time? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/434964-r34-clickingticking-and-whistle-noises/#findComment-7111298 Share on other sites
statue
Radio's were off. So it could be the alternator? I'll try again to find the sound by ear Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/434964-r34-clickingticking-and-whistle-noises/#findComment-7111703 Share on other sites
Jack-
aftermarket headunit/speakers or amp? sounds like alternator whine, common problem with after market audio, make sure it's all properly earthed Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/434964-r34-clickingticking-and-whistle-noises/#findComment-7120648 Share on other sites
Bennis
That video is a much better example of the whine. Cant say ive heard anything like it, sounds like the turbine spool from my old 4.2 turbo diesel patrol haha. GTRPSI
Clutch fan, a vacuum leak, aircon belt are more things that can make a similar noise.... Why dont you rev it with the bonnet open and stick your ear around for a listen?
