I have a 96 s2 gtst that I bought from Victoria. Now I'm still driving it as it has rego till March or so, I'm wondering if I have to take it over Dickson as it's an interstate transfer. I hear from some ppl I don't and from others I do.

Can someone please confirm this for me.

Cheers cuong.

No one hath more knowledge on such matters than the one they call 'The Dickson Kid' (once had a little thread on the subject) .. Sometimes known to sneak around late at night R34 GTR spotting with his Mum and thinly disguised as Jeremy.

Bahahaha! Love it. :ninja:

Yes you do.

1. Import

2 interstate

I've exhausted all option on trying not to go through Dickson but no one else will touch the car.

interstate yes import exclusively no. depends on complance plate colour. however as i too have a 96 s2 and assume your compliance plate is magenta coloured, then yes you do not have a choice.

I was told - import = dickson. I know there is some plate (ozdaz?)had some colour plate which he could go somewhere else. But, both my cars must of had the magenta colour. Green or purple. Green goes to Dickson - purple does not (I believe). I don't understand the compliance plates though. I think certain states have heavier compliance then other states.

Bill, you want to go R34 GTR spotting together? Have only seen 2 ! :(

Laws are super confusing; other way around magenta has to go to dickson, green or blue low volume or personal import does not. Talk to the right mechanic face to face and if you have a blue or green plate it is possible to get through with a local mechanic. I know a bloke who works at the dickson motor registry and was how we got my mates 180 passed at a local mechanic. All local mechanics have been advised to send all imports to dickson IF POSSIBLE but can OCCASIONALLY pass green or blue complianced imports.

It is a bullshit pollicy to justify dicksons existence. I dont personally work as a mechanic nor at the registry just what i have been told.

Oopsie - plates wrong way around lol But yeah - Follow this^ and you'll be fine.

There is a huge crackdown going on as Anfanee said so you can try your luck with a local. I knew Rosie had minimal work needed to get done to pass so I just took the risk at Dickson - I got a mechanic to do the work and show them the receipt. It's a lot better to prove a shop has done it correctly then bolt ons.

Goodluck ! I know a bit about the hassles Dickson can give - however, I just went in for a shopping list - fixed the list and passed.

You will need to get an ID check anyway. I have the same thing going on right now, I have a "relaxed" roadworthy lined up and found I had to go in for an ID check anyway, so I didn't want to be that guy that makes some dude lose his stamp.

Don't be that guy.

Better off to just make it as good as possible, do all the little dumb stuff like child seat restraints, make sure any pod filters/rad overflows/everything else is bolted in. If you have a front mount, make sure the reo for the front bar hasn't been cut. Check that your tyre placards are in English and you have the correct rolling diameter and load rating. I'm fairly certain the battle over coilovers that everyone has been having is fine now, so it means that you can still have them. If you have any questions call the technical advisers at Dickson, they are pretty good, and not as kunty as everyone else. I can't find the number, but call 13 22 81, and ask to speak to a technical adviser.

    • You shouldn't need to massively fatten up the mixtures for cold conditions. For one thing - 0°C is not that cold. For another, the Haltech will be using the IAT sensor to tell it how dense the air air, and calculate the correct amount of fuelling. Then the cold start enrichment is added as a % on top of that, so it should scale with the main fuelling. You might also doubt the IAT sensor at this time. You're not using one from an RB26 are you? Using a nice Bosch sensor or similar? Happens. Some wideband units take great pleasure in killing their sensors. Put another wideband in the tailpipe and compare. Or just swap the sensor to a brand new one and see.
    • Oh, my misunderstand. When the car was running, it sounded ok, but if I gave it any gas it wanted to die but caught itself afterwards. It's very different from how it was a couple months ago when it was warmer outside. The logs show that the AFRs are better during, what I assume, is warmup enrichment. Because it's cold, and air is more dense, should I work on the enrichment bit?
    • yess of course im not using 2nd hand parts from my spare engine, but the place where i live is hard to find parts for the RB20DET ,but for the RB20E is everywhere including new ones and a lot cheaper ,because for the RB20DET you have to order it overseas to get one and it cost a lot of money 3x the price to be exact. so i ask this topic because if i can use the new ones but for RB20E is it compatible or not. if not im screwed haha, not totally screwed but i have to save a lot of money first before i can begin repairing my engine, thanks for the information before.
    • Unless my sensor just died, was only a couple months old, I strongly believe it didn't. How can I test it? I never mentioned it being 20:1+?
    • Well, you wouldn't use 2nd hand bearings out of another engine anyway....so just buying the proper bearings is obviously what you're going to do. The crankshaft would be common. The conrods might be common. There is essentially nothing else you would be able to use.
