Hello everyone

First and foremost if I've done anything wrong with this post I apologise.. first time posting something!

I own a r33 gtst rb25det. It is 100% stock under the hood. The first stock turbo on it blew up (half of the rear turbine wheel was in my cat) so I replaced it with another stock turbo from the same model car, this turbo had minimal shaft play and to my surprise a week later the exact same thing happened. I then replaced it with another stock turbo that had no shaft play at all and surely enough it's done it again, I haven't taken this turbo off but all the symptoms are the same as the last 2, no boost, strange whining noise (front wheel spinning on its own? Or air just passing through) I'm beginning to think its something I'm doing wrong so before I make another move id really appreciate any ideas and suggestions. No the oil and water lines are not mixed up. Thanks!

What boost is it running?

Any split vac lines?

Car seem to be running/sounding like the turbos are working harder? How are you driving it?

Have you checked the oil and water feeds to the turbo?

It's stock boost

I don't think there's any splits

I wasn't driving it really hard all the time but I wasn't babying it around where either turbo had a sort of high pitch whining but I thought it could be a small manifold leak. And I haven't checked those feeds are they just the holes on the head that the oil and water come out of cause if so they're definitely fine I got showered in coolant the first time I done a turbo change haha

Sounds boost related. Boost controller used? Psi? Controller plumbed wrong causing overvoost?

No boost controller, one intercooler pipes has a little nipple on it right near the pod filter I put a hose on that and put it to the stock turbo actuator

I don't have an after market boost gauge just the mercury one on the dash. It was boosting at 7/8 psi. I don't know how to test the oil feed? I know that there is definitely oil getting down there but as for the flow of it? I do have one theory.. One of the coolant lines from the turbo didn't line up to the feed on the car side ( the one right at the back of the head ) and i was trying to bend and manoeuvre it with out breaking it but I failed and it snapped so I chopped it where it had bent put hose in to replace that line.. I'm thinking maybe the hose isn't holding temperature like the steel stock lines and the ceramic wheel is just getting to hot? Such a pain in the ass

Coolant won't be the problem. They are only water cooled to aid in shutdown, to cool the turbo quicker and not create carbon deposits due to cooking the oil. To test flow of oil pull off drain and run car, obviously catch oil in a bucket run car for period of time and measure oil in bucket, use maths to calc flow.

Am I misunderstanding this or did you put the boost feed for the actuator on the suction line? (the pipe from filter to turbo)

If so then theres your problem, if not disregard this

Does the red hose go straight to the turbo, nothing tees off it?

what does your stock boost gauge go up to when under full load/boost?

Did you make sure you cleaned all the old parts of turbo out of the exhaust?

Correct the red hose goes straight to turbo. The highest reading on the dash is +7 and under full boost it gets to 3 quarters of that. I cleaned out as the bulk of it I wouldn't be surprised if there was a little bit left behind?!

Possible that debris fell from somewhere and smashed the turbine. Perhaps the turbo was spun pretty hard then removed and sold to you, and you just got unlucky? Just change the turbo again. Get an R34 turbo if you can for a little upgrade ;):P.

The turbo (the actual compressor housing?) or the turbo wastegate actuator? You've said it's gone to the actuator as well as it going to the turbo..
