I'd take back roads down to Melbourne, stay the night somewhere and then head over to Apollo Bay, along the Great ocean Road, then back through the Otways.

It'd be a long 3 days of driving but it'd be awesome. I'm not too sure about the trip back to Canberra from Apollo Bay though as it'd be about 10 hours or so.

Mmmmmm. .... Interesting ..

I agree with Jeremy, Victorian mountain and coastal roads are the nicest, also the Snowys, and south coast mountains, ( Bega valley, Brown mountain etc)

Good thing is its all joined up and nearby.

Motorcyclists live for this kind of thing, so check out their forums for the best roads in the country.

For example the ride to Phillip Island from here is real nice, if you take the same route all the riders go.

Ps: Cape Otway is nice in summer... in winter it can be an Antarctic blast in the face.
