Rosberg is a Finn. I dont care what he says.

Doesnt matter if he was born and raised in Germany, Rosberg is a Finnish name :P

No it's not. Just cause his dad was a Finn doesn't make it a Finnish name. Sounds more like a Swedish name to me (the Swedes are as prevalent in Finland as Kiwis are here). In fact, the letters B and G are very rarely used in the Finnish language

For that matter, Bottas doesn't sound too Finnish to me, either.

Tip - if the name ends in the letters "nen", then it's 99.99% certain it's a Finnish name. Also, many of them end in a vowel (most commonly A or O)

Ahh. I see Mr Red Bull is umming about keeping a slow, more experienced brick alongside the young gun

Slow experienced brick is beating the current young gun pretty convincingly. Just as he was when RBR chose Dan for the test over JEV for that matter...

Head to head races in JEVs favour.

Average finishing position in JEV's favour.

WDC points 21 vs 8.

Kvyatt's highest finish is 9th. JEV's had higher finishes than that 3 times this season. Including equalling his own record for highest STR finish since Vettel's STR victory. And was on for at least a 6th in Monaco as well.

Not sure what he's doing wrong to be quite honest.

Yeh, I have to admit that whilst I dont like or rate him he is damn unlucky to be overlooked as i think for the next season, possibly two JEV will be doing the better job than Daniil will at RBR. May not have the pace, or head space to be a Vettel but is capable of being there about most weekends and over a season pull in some good points.

As for beating Dan...please ! :)

2013

Dan vs JEV

Points: 20 vs 13

Best Finish: 7th vs 6th

Points Finishes: 7 vs 3

Head to Head Quali: 15 v 4

Avg Quali Pos: 10.68 vs 13.63

Cliff Notes:

Dan was on for a 4th or so place @ Silverstonewhen the team made the wrong call and didnt pit him with the others and had to struggle on old tyres losing a few palces in the last few laps after the late safety car. I am sure JEV had a few tough brakes as well but overall the years results speak to the trend.

2012

Dan vs JEV

Points: 10 vs 16

Best Finish: 9th vs 8th

Points Finishes: 6 vs 4

Head to Head Quali: 15 v 5

Avg Quali Pos: 14.7 vs 16.65

Cliff Notes:

JEV was behind Dan on the road and inherited one of his 8th places when Dad had mech failures at ends of races. In particular Korea Dan should have finished 8th instead of JEV but a broken swaybar meant he waas limping and JEV overtook him for 8th whilst Dan held on for 9th. In Monza was good for 10th until fuel pump failed on second last lap.

There was JEV being hit by Schuey so both sides had bad luck in 2012..but when you weigh up some of the circumstance, along with the speed shown in a rather poor car with rather inconsistant performance...generally people conceded JEV had more points but it was circumstance that played him his hand.

"as he was when RBR chose Dan for the test over JEV" - ie at that time they chose Dan for that RBR test at Silverstone.

As you pointed out, JEV beat Dan in 2012. Yes four 8ths beats a few 9th and a couple of tenth places. By 16pts to 10 in fact. JEV certainly proved he had the better race finishing positions that year. Dan COULDA matched JEV's string of 8th's ONCE if not for the swaybar sob story, But even IF he did, it would still have been 3-1 to JEV for highest finishing position. That and the 16-10 is a pretty solid win IMO. If you count the points each "lost", JEV still comes out ahead.

And JEV was thoroughly beating Dan in the first half of 2013 until that point when they overlooked him for the RBR test. Then everything changed. But still Dan never matched JEV's best 2013 race fnish of 6th and JEV was on for another 6th at Silverstone until the Failrelli fiasco claimed him as one of it's random scalps. Another mech failure took him out at Monza where he was right with Dan, robbing him of another points haul. Random reliability issues are the only reason Dan beat JEV in 2013.

And this year it's JEV 21pts, Kvyat 8. JEV has more points finishes. Higher points finishes. 2.5times as many points. He's had a couple of absolutely storming stints passing all sorts of more fancied machinery and drivers in SIngapore and Sochi. And they choose Kvyat.

LOL...who is full of IFs now? I suppose if you never make Q3 and always have an extra set of fresh tyres its easier to claw a few seconds back in a race :)

Soundly beating Dan in 2013 up to the test? Try 3 points scoring finishes each

Dan 7, 10 and 8th with Jev 10, 8 and 6th leading up to Britsh GP.

As for Singapore...driving off the circuit every pass helps I guess. Cant argue with the result but it was a rather scrappy, messy drive. He was unlucky not to get Vettels seat and it was probably a close call against Dan. But obviously his frequent mistakes, penalties and messy quali excursions don't ooz confidence.

I rate his Canada drive but its about the only time he has strung a solid weekend together without hiccups or driving into people like in Spain etc

lol

leading up to the British GP it was:

JEV with 10th, 8th and 6th = 13pts

Dan with a 7th and 10th = 7pts

Dan got that 8th IN the British GP where JEV was taken out with a Pirelli blowout while ahead...

don't let the facts get int he way of a good story :P

Lets cherry pick our points then. Going into Monaco and returning to Europe JEV had 1 point compared to Dan's 7 points. TOTALLY/CLEARLY KICKING HIS ASS. :) Thats why I look at the amount of points finishes as having more weight then points to a point in the season. :)

There is only one supreme French F1 talent and thats Romain ...and really he is Swiss :)

In all seriousness whilst I have no love for Jev he has done enough this year to get another year. You only have to look at how Webber went from strong to hopeless post 2010, Vettel to crap this year. Kimi to winning and now struggling to appreciate that the cars are a little fickle and being a fraction off in one years car doesnt mean you cant take a huge step with a car or tyre that somehow fits you better.

And, for mine I accpet that JEV is the new Heidfeld. Has potential, a load of what ifs around his performances and somehow seems to accumulate points despite never seeming to impress in other than a single race a season.

I scratch my head how he can say that he is capable of Dan like RBR results because when they were team mates they were close....he was never close. He qualified several positions behind every race, never raced in 3rd - 4th with distinction in a GP like Dan did all day at the British GP until like Kimi stayed out and made the wrong call. Never stuck the car in 6th in Bahrain. Instead when in racey positions he runs into people havign received few 10 spot penalties for the next race etc.

    • It's about the same time for me from Bunnings, or the Fasteners. My big push away from takeaway food, and gluten in general keeps me away from the Bunnings Snags too! Weather up here, I've been out for two walks today in the beautiful sunshine. Had a few little drizzles, and some wind, that honestly, a tin of beans and I could compete on how harsh she blows Thankfully, being this bit inland, we're not getting anything much really. Will probably pick up a bit more when/if Cyclone Alfie decides to come ashore. A few areas in the GC though, and south into NSW are really getting smashed though! Right now, I'm just annoyed Alfie hasn't hit, as I'm not allowed to crack into the BBQ foods like the bacon and eggs until the Cyclone hits "In case we lose power"...
    • I love fastener joints, the price difference between them and joints like Bunnings or Super Cheap is amazing, and they either have exactly what you want, or they can get it to quick They have even given me some for free when I only needed a couple of specific size In saying this, I have paid premium for fasteners from Bunnings if they have the sizes I need, but only for convenience really, as my local is only 10 minutes away, the Sushi joint near them is also a consideration  How's the weather Matt? Stay safe mate
    • Wideband is worth setting up if only for tuning purposes. I would not mess with the ignition system unless there's a misfire. HKS crank trigger is popular out here for the relatively easily sourced Denso crank sensor, not a bad idea to install as well regardless of power level on a standalone. Boost leak test is worth thinking about. Oil pressure sensor tied to a fuel cut isn't a bad idea either. Getting the tune figured out is a good idea. Without putting eyes on it and getting under it there's no way for us to tell you exactly what it needs but most likely you're down to the last 10% that will make a big, big difference in how happy you are with the car.
    • Doing a refresh of my 33 and can see a few websites stating they sell the entire main carpet for our cars, but they all have generic photos which is fine, i understand they are custom made to order.  Just seeing if anyone has got it done or had any experience with this, as i would only want to do it if the fit and finish was as good as oem https://carmatsdirect.com.au/products/moulded-carpet-or-vinyl-for-nissan-skyline-r33-1993-1998-coupe https://knoxautocarpets.com.au/moulded-carpets/nissan/skyline/skyline-r-33-1993-1998/
    • Any plans for E85? If so, add flex fuel sensor.   I'd probably add in the sensors I mentioned above if the Link will support using them for engine protection. With water pressure, you need to be able to effectively set it that "If temp > X, and pressure = atmospheric, shutdown" as at running temp, you should be able to read pressure in the cooling system. If pressure suddenly disappears, it means the water went some where, and this is a quicker reaction than waiting on water temp to go up (Which, can take a little longer than you'd like, considering it now has to wait for hot air to heat it up) Oil pressure, Oil temp, both would be on my list too if you're looking to add sensors. Wideband O2. And at least one EGT sensor. If you're feeling deluxe, put in individual runner EGTs. Single EGT sensor is more so forget about a specific number, get used to "What is normal EGTs", and then keep an eye on it, if it starts going away from "normal" it's a sign something is wrong (Also, things like the tune can still start going out of spec, but EGTs may not show it, for example one injector starts running leaning, so ECU richens everything up, now 5 out of 6 cylinders are rich, and running cool, with one cylinder lean and running hotter, so it's not perfect) Then there is your other things to look at non sensor related, but you may have already done, or have underway, and that would be things like building a sump for more oil, and better oil control under high G-Forces (Cornering, brakes, acceleration). Basically, the above is worth looking/thinking about, if the ECU can do protective stuff with it, and you continue to use it how you are (Drive it to the track, thrash it, drive home, repeat once every 3 to 4 months)
