Neebo is nothing like the track. it is the longer high speed sweepers that cause the problem. The oil goes to one side of the sump and is held there by the G-Force so the oil pick up only breaths air not oil.

This is why I have only gone to Morgan Park in Warwick for track days so far. The track is more like a closed road than a race track. No prolonged corners or high speed bends etc.

GTRman1992 exactly what I've been told. You can never pull as much Gs on the road as you can on the track. But I'd really wanna be safe, so I popped the sump on to have peace of mind. Not really keen on 10 grand worth of damage.

John...yes I believe you have to pull the engine to get to the sump, not too sure on this though.

hey does anyone have any ideas or pics on what a good baffled or gated sump would look like or bits you have seen that are a good idea to inprove on?

I've got my rb25 in bits and just about to put it back together but would like to put some baffling in it as i will be doing a bit of fast driving even though its not a rb26 or gtr i'm guessing the rb25's suffer from this aswell just not as bad?

BTW aftermaket ones are out (i'm a cheap bastard :( ) and know a lot of people that can help with the fabrication.

Thanks

John

The trust oil sump increases the capacity and the sleeve around the new pickup acts as a baffle.

We put one on the Targa prepped GTR and had absolutely no oil surge issues.

The Jun one is just a baffle plate/windage tray and does not increase the sump capacity which is one of the biggest problems with the R. It is virtually the same as the Nismo one and all it did( yes, we tried that first ) was to delay the onset of the oil guage dropping.

My advice is if you are track running a GTR , have a very good fast reading oil pressure gauge with an adjustable red light.

I used that light to save my engine on a few occasions last year when I won the Enjo Speed Event Series.

Do the things Sydney Kid suggest but don't forget , they only have 4.5L std and with the std *oil up the top*problems, there may be as little as 2L left in the sump to run the bearings.

Cheers

Ken

well I would of never though that the R's were like that

another way you guys can fix the prob is running a dry sump set up if your going to be on the track a bit it is not a bad idea a few more dollars in it than $900 but yeah you get the benifit of running a supper cooling oil system & get ride of surge once & for all

    • CTIS (Central Tire Inflation System) has existed since the 80's. I'm looking into buying a Hummer H1 and they generally included it.
    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
