Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself.

My name's Charles, I'm 22 and live in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

Currently I own a 1988 Series 2 R31 Ti, but am probably going to upgrade to a 34 because the Ti has a few problems, at least one was my doing but some have been there since I got the car three years ago.

I've had my license for Two weeks now (slow I know!) and know little about the mechanical side of things.

With regards to r34's I'm looking at 25GT's and GT-V's because of being on green P's. I have one question about them after looking on Carsales: Do only GT-V's have the stock Strut brace under the hood? I'm wondering if a lot of the 25GT's on carsales are not being recognised as GT-V's in other words.

Sorry if I sound incoherent and stuff, I've been awake for nearly 17 hours and am about to go to bed.

Two weeks less than three years. Hence my wanting a GT-V, they're easier to turbo because of the GT-T parts already being there, I heard. Also, thanks for the kind welcome.

i THINK it is because a GT-V has the suspension setup of a GTT but without the turbo (from factory) - and this includes brakes, and a lot of other things.. Do a search on this. then of course, people can buy a 25GT and then put in a strut brace.

Welcome and good luck with the search for a new car. Make sure you read the appropriate threads (buying guides etc) in the forum before you start inspecting potential cars to improve your chances of getting a good one.

Merry Christmas!

Thanks Loach. I've had a read of the list of things to check for, but am still unsure if I'll be able to know what I'm actually looking at. I guess I could get my brother to come with me maybe; he used to be a nissan mechanic and has probably worked on Skylines.

    • yeah I've never understood that either.... And to answer an earlier question, I write the date on open bottles and throw them if more than 12 months old (which they almost always are, because I don't need to bleed them unless I'm changing lines/calipers etc in between)
    • Nah, the one that hit the boot was a big steel locker, around 6 foot height, 4 foot wide and 2 foot deep, empty it weighs about 15kg and had about that amount of stuff in it The photo didn't give a good representation of the actual damage, the large ding on the passenger side was about a inch deep, the one on the driver was about 1/2 inch deep, right on the curve, where the inner boot frame doesn't let you get behind it with a dolly Basically the same issue with getting behind the damage on the centre of the boot We could have filled it all with bog, but my OCD would be triggered every time I looked at it, knowing what hides beneath  As for the locker, I did get the shits with it and put it in the scap metal bin, but, I pulled it out and it is now sitting in the garage at home full of car servicing stuff, cleaning gear and random tools, it's going to pay for it's indiscretions
    • Whilst I typically don't cheap out on things, if I can save some money, like $1000, on a clean straight panel, that gives me $1000 to spend on other stuff, basically free money really 🤔 🤣
    • Is the toolbox that damaged the boot seal the same item that fell on the car during the storm a while back?
    • Who are you to deny yourself? I’ve said this many times to myself and apart from getting what I really want, I go quiet for a while whilst working out what I just did to my savings and how will I afford what it cost, then, next payday…
