Hi

I have a standard rb20det and I need to change the coilpacks but I don't know which brand to get and if I should buy them off ebay or find a shop. I don't need the best out there because it only a standard motor im just looking for reasonable priced ones to replace standard.

getting ls2 truck coilpacks for my 26, maybe you should look into something like that?

Splitfire coil packs are really good. I just put them in my 34. They're a little expensive but they will run for the life of the car under any conditions. You get what you pay for a little I guess?

What do they do exactly? I'm new to all this so unsure. Do they have a performance benefit over stock on a stock motor?

They are a little electric box the goes on the top of the spark plug I'm not sure if the amplify the spark or restrict it but most modern cars have them and they are damn expensive. They can have a slight improvement in power but I had to replace mine as the ones that were in the car were broken but its about how long the coil packs will last better and ones should last longer
