Rear Heater Boss Question...

Since the coolant in the rear of block is the hottest and where problems usually start...and since I'm not running a heater in my track car and I was wondering if there were any significant cooling gains to be had by connecting the rear heater boss on the block to the radiator inlet.

Any advice is appreciated!

In theory yes. But tge fluid will take the path of least resistance. Has the potential to stave the front of the head of fresh water.

I say try it and run 2 temp guages to make sure the temps are even

I have taken a -8 line from the rear water welsh plug in the head and ran it round to the top coolant hose casting.

Have you noticed cooler temps with your setup? Any possibility of starving the front of the block as mentioned above?

1/2 (-8) would be ok id image. 5/8" (heater hose) is what im worrying about.

I was considering -6 or -8, but at those sizes, I'm not sure how much difference it'd actually make.

If I did it, I would use a larger diameter line and restrict the flow to suit what's required after checking with a couple of temp gauges.
