Glad to see this is resolved, I have been watching with great interest.

Today I was having a think and felt worried about the issue occurring on more peoples cars than we would like, and ultimate I came to the conclusion that we are a little stuck when we go for poverty pack Nistune boards.

I am just wondering and thinking aloud, has anyone ever tried to run a different trigger system on their Nistune? Such as a crank trigger or similar? I would REALLY like to know if this is at all possible. Perhaps a call to the Nistune dude in SA is necessary, as I am sure something simple can be written into the code.

Trent and I were discussing this very topic yesterday after seeing the fault first hand. We agreed the later (VQ etc) motors using a flywheel based trigger with a large trigger wheel behind the starter teeth was a much better idea, as the larger the wheel, the easier it is to pick up the trigger magnetically, hence less noise. Not sure how hard it would be to make something like that work on the RB flywheel though.

As for the stock cas, the spacing is just too small between the cutouts for a lagging optical sensor to pick up. That said, they are very old by now and most probably require replacement. Any idea how much they sell for new?

I wonder how hard it would be to modify the stock harmonic balancer for a trigger wheel? All it needs is a 24 tooth chain sprocket tapped on to it with one tooth ground down, correct? But you would still require the converter box for the Nistune.

I'm just being funny about the pov pack, its definitely the cheapest option is all. I'd run it over a lot of other aftermarket units, but would rather run a Link or Adaptronic for that matter. Money talks :)

XKLABA do you mind telling me who makes the converter box? Is it also Ross? I agree if the PFC can do it, the Nistune can, too. How do you find it works?

That's a shame the trace didn't show it up? was that using nistune to log it? Perhaps the sample rate isn't fast enough, as you know everything is happening extremely fast!

It doesnt show up in any ecu in the log.

It doesnt show up in any ecu in the log.

:D Yeah, the ECU doesn't know any more than the CAS is telling it in terms of where the crank position is. The ECU will do it's normal calculation on advance and record that in the log, the best chance of spotting a triggering issue is if the ECU is smart enough to realise it has not recorded a trigger in the period of time it should have and then logged it as a warning.... or if a triggering is bad enough the deviation in the logged rpm "curve" has the potential to get quite conspicuous.

Thanks for the feedback, shame you didn't get to use it with the PFC!

Your welcome, it may end up on the 32 yet, with a 36-2 CAS disc and the PFC if I don't bit the bullit and get an EmTron

Paul had it on his car with the link using the nissan signal before getting the M3 put in, he might be able to shed some light on this

I thought it might have shown up as erratic timing being delivered in the nistune log. Obviously best chioce is using a scope to log it.

One of the joys of paying big money of a ECU is the Syvecs has a built in 1khz oscilloscope, which was instrumental in finding a sensor issue I had with the Ross setup

The two lines on the graph are with filter and without

Shame we didn't test the airbox closed with no filter, just with the lid off and no filter, (mainly as the filter kept popping out on decel.) The filter was dirty, though I suspect the snorkel holds power back a bit. Stao has drilled lots of holes in the lid of his which obviously works.

    • Just wanted to pop in an update on my setup. The CD swap has been great, I love the mazworks housing for the overall simplicity. I ended up sealing my trans tunnel with a thin sheet of aluminum reused some of the holes on the trans tunnel, and laid some window sealing EPS foam around the edges. Works great, really quieted things down and sealed up the car.  As for the power comment. Right now I am also running about 650whp. with the way the bell housing is attached to the face of the transmission I have zero doubts it would be fine, mainly because the input shaft and main shaft bearings are seated into the bell housing adapter. This means the load is NOT on the bolts to maintain the power, rather into he casing of the bell housing; Yes the bolts are doing some work there, but with both shafts locked in zero worries.  End of the day, the Mazworks solution is the easiest and safest. no need to take your trans to a shop to get milled perfectly, it fits with minimal clearancing, and you can use all your existing clutch and flywheel.  Driving wise the CD has been great compared to the big box, I'll probably swap my final drive at some point. The serial 9 shifter is gooooood, my only qualm is how tight it is, it takes a fair bit to get use to, 5th and 6th are a bit eh/hard to find at times, but maybe I need re-adjusting, and I think my clutch master is very tired and needs a rebuild.
    • If you are keen, have a look at my build thread. Car is for sale for the right money or straight swap for a F80 M3 LCI.
    • Welcome mate.  No point in over thinking it, buying any one of those cars you mentioned is not a smart or logical choice with the availability of many "better" (re price to performance) cars available to you.  The heart wants what the heart wants, buy whatever it leads you too.
    • Hey everyone! Im so grateful to be apart of this community and ill do my best to be apart of this. Firstly, i'm not disclosing my real name due to in real life circumstances surrounding my privacy and public image (sorry lol) Secondly, The only thing personal I am willing to share is that I'm from Sydney and a descendant of one of Sydneys largest mortgage firms. I got gifted my first ever car, a 2022 Porsche Cayenne and I love it to death. Ive been driving it for about 5 or 6 months now and honestly Im so grateful for my parents for gifting me this vehicle. However recently I've been working my ass off to afford my second car (which I need help deciding soooooo community help me out please?). Once decided, im planning to try modify it myself. Recent I've been thinking about getting a Skyline, particularly a 25GT or GT-V, yes I know overrated as hell, but I'm also considering a Chaser which I recently came to love. However my dream is to one day own a 180SX (So hard to find clean versions and im not really into importing).  Lastly before I send this off, I want to apologize if I sound tacky or pretentious. I try not to and want to genuinely learn from everyone and anyone. (Im no expert in this area) Thanks for reading!
