My r32 has has all the top end redone basically. New hoses, head bolts, bov, converted to top mount turbo with stainless manifold etc. wishing now that I bought an imported rb20 and just put my old aftermarket parts on. Because think bottom end needs replacing. Anyway? Sorry for rambling, (been up for 20 hours) my car is blowing quite a lot of white smoke. Great deals in fact, (to the point I'm embarrassed to drive it) it's really really bad when cold, but still quite bad when hot, and when change gears/up it) any ideas. Thinking maybe pistons and rings? Anyway any ideas appreciated. And yes I know I should have just done an engine swap. Thanks.

Hey HAMMY,

Whitish/grey smoke can be coolant related.

If you've driven the car a little bit, check the underneath of the oil filler cap for browny sludge. Also check the oil for discolouration (it should be transparent, not milky)

If you see these signs, maybe start with checking the head gasket.

Greyish/blue smoke is usually oil related. Could be anything from worn valve stem seals/guides to a blocked PCV.

Let me know how you go.

Mark :)

Also something I forgot to mention. Which is a big problem (it was late) we took it for a drive down and but up the range in low gears (high revs) to try burn oil outta exhaust, when we got back the smoke had cleared greatly, but still when gear changed or reved came out more noticeable than good. Checked oil the next morning had lost 1L :-O :( changed to thicker oil, same outcome. I'm worried she's a lost cause (without putting a couple G into the lower end) hope this makes sense? I'm no mechanic

Yes this worries me a lot :( I spent all my money doing up the top half of engine neglecting the block ! Why did I not do an engine swap! Woulda been cheaper :-/

Thanks anyway guys, think I knew the outcome, just was in denial and hoping there was a way out workout a rebuild haha. Cheers

Hammy
