Rb25/30 De Cam Leak? Need Help

hey guys, i have a leak due to oil being overfilled, coming from the left cam gear not the back, from where the bolt is holding the gear in. its quite weird tbh.

There's an oring behind that bolt. theres oil in there fot the vct to work.

Check it out and replace it.

I cant see hiw overfilling it would damge it, how much overfill are we talking?

1-1.5l i have had this problem before except now it doesnt come out the overflow i have a catch can so im guessing it came out through there?

when you're revving at 7500 i guess it has to come out somewhere....

So its a pretty serious build? Omly reason I ask is I can see a bolt blocking off a small coolant line in the photo

I doubt the leak has anything to with revs or overfill. Its just a leak.

I thought there was a cover over that bolt through the centre of the vct gear, has an oring too. Bolts on using the four small bolt holes you can see.

I never knew that. It's never leaked before considering I had the engine rebuilt 2000km ago you'd think that would get changed.

True, I was thinking if the neo vct which has a plug that seals it off, pre neo uses the plate.

no seal between the bolt and the cam. Should have the bolt with a washer behind it. Then a spring and plate with o-ring on top of the bolt. Ive had that one off quite a few times when building my engine

Id expect a little bit of leakage past the bolt but nothing major. How come the cover is off?

Do you have any pictures? when i bought the motor it didnt have the cover on it? but its been fine till the past trackday it started leaking too much. it spits out onto my windscreen....

change the seal, they're like $8 from a spares shop.

rock up any spares shop and ask for a RB20/25/26/30 crank/cam seal.. they're all the same.. I got mine for $8

It's not a cam seal though it's an oring that sits behind the Bolt holding the can gear on, oring on that or am I wr

The neo engine has a different vct setup that uses an oring behind a bolt to seal, which is what I was thinking of.

Pre neo is different as 89cal pointed out 2and the image I posted shows that.

You are missing the cover and the seal.

wait you're missing the cover, spring, seal and those 4x 6/8mm?mm bolts

that's why it looks funny, also if that's the case how does your VCT function properly? I'm sure that spring in there to shift the cam sprocket

Now thats what im thinking, its gone through a few guys on the forum as far as i know it never ran it, it only started leaking now after 2 years? im so confused lol

yeah needs a washer, spring, 0-ring, plate and 4x plates

I wouldn't be surprised if your VCT is not working
