Would not try. All the engine torque will go through the gearbox mounts. The engine will flail around in the bay unless you have the magic touch on the throttle and clutch. You don't want to stretch and stress the various wiring looms, hoses and other connections on the engine.

It _could_ be done, but definitely not advisable.

I think he's taking about the bolts holding the gearbox to the engine, not the mounts.

Cant think why you would want to do that, but I would say a car will work with heaps less bolts than it left the factory with, what that number and what bolts I dont know.

A loooooong time ago one of my boys bought a 20det engine/box from Adelaide Jap Motorsport who were THE import engine people back then.

We dropped it into a VB Commo and she went for ages with NO engine to box reinforcement pieces.

That's the way she turned up, wired onto a pallet.

Engineer had also never seen a 32 so he didn't notice anything amiss.

Eventually a mate who had actually seen an R32 pointed out the missing components so we got in touch with Adelaide and they posted them up.

No idea why the engine was delivered missing the bits but at a guess, they'd done a box swap and got a bit lazy.

Obviously it didn't break in half or tear itself to bits but it sure looked a lot stronger with those reinforcements attached.

Any up down or left right movement between the gearbox and engine may result in a bent transmission input shaft.

Ive seen a few cars with up to 2 bolts missing being driven, however the others were tight, not exactly the best thing to be doing driving it that way.....
