Hey guys quick question for ya'll.

Just traded my n/a S13 for an R32 Gtst a month or two back. Sweet ride dope deal on my end only downfall is its auto, gotta change dat shit! Pretty stock, wider wheels, fmic, blow off etc.

Anyway I have noticed I have really bad understeer when driving in the wet. I literally have to slow down to 20km/h to get around a roundabout without the front wheels locking up on me. Its realy wierd since the first thing that kicked out in the s13 was the rear haha. In the dry its fine.. Anyways just wondering if anyone may have an answer for me or something of use i could do.

Cheers guys

thats odd - try tyres and alignment for sure - last track day i had - my rear end went out, shifting from 4th to third- soon as the clutch came out bam so did the rear end -

hope you fix it - bugger if i would be driving it in the wet if its that bad

I used to own a 4WS Prelude daily and in the wet it couldn't follow a Vectra around a simple corner.

Damn Nankangs needed changing despite 70%

Yeah, cheap tyres, including a lot of the chinese stuff (ling long, nankang etc) are horrible even with tread.

OP check out what tyres you have, and what pressure they're running and post back.

I use to have some no brand chinese tyres on the old XR6's rear, 1 drop of rain and i could have walked faster around a roundabout without getting some serious drift angle happening, it was so bad that i stopped the family driving it till i changed them.

There would be no g force through the car sideways, you would swear it would have been impossible to get a car sliding at those slow speeds, yet going around at a stupidly slow speed yet the rear would just break out in a blink of a eye.....

Dont buy no name chines tyres, tyre shops are selling them everwhere, they are death traps.

Makes me wonder how many people have been booked under the hoon laws with them or wraped the car around a pole and been told by the police they were driving like idiots and charged.

I can see how that goes down with a cop who just pulled you over for sideways action.

"I swear sir its these new nangkangs, says the guy who bashed limiter at full lock"

Nah but seriously. shit tyres are shit

Even the khumo ku31 on my pulsar had zero wet traction with 50% tread

Cheers for the replies guys appreciate it. Checked the front tyres, a brand called kinforrest? Never heard of it so I'm assuming they're rubbish and I'll replace them as soon as possible. Approx 60 % worn with more wear on the inside. Will ask my mechanic friend to take a good look at it once new tyres and wheel balance and alignment has been done.

Kinforest are terrible.

i had bald rears on the XR6T and brand new (2000km old) kinforest on the front.

in the wet i could turn the wheel, step hard on the throttle and the rear still had more grip and the car would go straight.

i didn't even bother to wear them out, at 3000km old i left them at a Bob Jane, told them to do what they want with them, except resell them.

change tyres, under steer be gone!

Sounds like you should check your control arms and bushings if there is uneven wear. No point prematurely wearing through new tyres before its fixed.

    • The cam I am actually putting in (a few posts up) is actually smaller than my current one. At least duration/overlap wise. All the chop stuff I hear just sounds like an engine running badly, because it is. I then envision driving it around in 1st gear and being massively sad about it bucking to the beat of said chop. There is an idle video of someone with a similar cam floating around the internet, but mine is a custom cam (so is his) so it'll never be the same, plus the fact exhausts are entirely different. What I want to do is put some bullet mufflers/race mufflers in to replace a couple sections straight pipes that currently replace the two extra cats that I don't need. But this is even further down the line!
    • I can tell you now, when the bracket that the little hydraulic ram attaches to snaps, with a subframe, and V8 from an AMG C63 on it, it sounds like someone letting shotgun off right beside you. It leaves your ears ringing, and a huge thankfulness that you never ever put a body part under something heavy that's only supported by a hydraulic lift...
    • Still not a guarantee fix. I used a high quality butyl-mastiq (the black goo that's not really silicone nor polyurethane, same stuff they use from the factory that just spreads out like melty cheese), and I still get lots of water on both sides of the trunk when raining or washing the car. I also suspect the factory spoiler rubber gasket might not be sealing well, so I'm thinking of adding a thin layer of grey silicone around the bolt holes on both sides and see if that's where it also leaks from. The biggest issue is that these cars don't come with a drain hole on each side like other coupes and hatchbacks.
