Turbo Noise When Cold

Hi

My 1995 Skyline GTST has developed whining noise from the turbo when cold and driven on boost. Not sure how long the sound has been there as l do not normally drive on boost when the engine is cold.

The noise disappears once the the engine/ turbo have warmed up.

The car still has full boost and drives like normal. My mechanic has checked the turbo...there is no smoke, there is no oil & there is no compressor shaft play either in/out or up/down.

The noise appeared after a track day.

The turbo is the factory turbo..

Any thoughts?

yeah it could be a air leak on boost man.

do a pressure test.. see what you can find.

could be gasket going. ? causing the leak, as it warms up and expands it plugs the gap.

mine does this when its cold however my turbo is not stock...is yours stock or have you changed anything that could contribute to the noise? i've not worried about mine...it doesn't seem to affect performance....its a journal bearing turbo.
