damn turbos biting me in the arse AGAIN!

back story: car ran mint for two full days at ADGP sydney, no issues at all. put on trailer and towed back home (turbo intake bagged, like i always do)

yesterday (2 weeks of sitting around in shed) i started it up and brought it up to temp then moved car out to do some work, shut it down and noticed a bad noise... wasnt there before.

heres the vid

the worst part about it is this is Garrett number 4 for me now....

well it isnt, feed is fine, oil supply is fine, oil pressure is fine, have datalogs from hours of track time with no surge.

lately ive been having a lot of drama's with Garrett turbos.. I had a GT3076 which died out of the blue, so i bought a brand new GTX3076 from MTQ here in Adelaide and this lasted a month. the turbo out of the blue developed a whistle and then seized quickly after. MTQ and Garrett could not determine the cause and denied warranty.

So anyway i then purchased a GT3582R new, cheap as i reused housings off my GTX, this has lasted the longest and now after competing FAULTLESSLY for 2 days at ADGP Round 3 at Sydney a few weeks ago i then put it on trailer, drove back to Adelaide (intake was bagged as i always have for years when towing interstate) and placed in my shed. I started it back up yesterday to move it out the shed and when shutting it off i heard this noise.

Im a bit lost to why Garretts keep Failing me, its not oil feed, oil control or temp problems, i have data logs and evidence to back this up. the engine has been the same one since day 1.

many factory turbo set ups dont run inline filters... its not the be all and end all solution.

MTQ found no evidence of oil supply or contamination on my GTX turbo they simply could not determine the cause

Oil is usually around the 15w 40 SN rated for e85, oil temps dont really go much over 110-120

EMAP is ex mani abs press.

Unless it was also you that I'm thinking of, there was a recent (like sometime in the last 6 months or so) on exactly this topic and my faint memory of it is that it had to come back to some sort of interruption or inadequacy of the oil feed for this to occur.

hey mate, remember we came and saw you when my GTX died at Calder ADGP round.

send me a pm with what you can do with my current turbo.. keep in mind i dont want any change in specs really.

I can have your dead turbocharger rebuilt. and see if mine last much longer : )
