walky01
hey guys, i recently posted up why my VCT was leaking, bought all parts and now it seems like my Bolt holding the VCT camgear in is out too much, the washer looks very thick, not like a normal flat washer, is that normal? the bolt sticks out so much that i cant put the VCT cover plate spring and 4 little bots on. an help appreciated ! Ben C34
Check that you can use vct with the cams Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/439725-rb25-vct-camgear-bolt-too-far-out-need-replacement/#findComment-7210263 Share on other sites
Dose Pipe Sutututu
if you jiggle it you will feel there's a groove it goes into, I suggest you pull off the timing belt to get in into place once it goes into place then hold the cam with a wrench and torque up the nut.. it will then sit flush and allow you to put the spring/cover/seal on Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/439725-rb25-vct-camgear-bolt-too-far-out-need-replacement/#findComment-7210265 Share on other sites

Simon-S14
Sure they aren't rb26 cams reground? Does the bolt bottom out if you remove the washers? Ben C34
Because you have different cams I would not activate vct until you know you can. Cams with more overlap cant run vct or else the inlet and exhaust valves could hit. Obviously you need to fix the leak though but dont plug in the solenoid until you are sure its ok. walky01
they are standard rb25 cams reground, the engine has gone through two guys here, dondenaso (i think thats how you say it) and Skit_r31 both same setup.... not sure if you have seen them on here before, in the n/a section. walky01
Sure they aren't rb26 cams reground? Does the bolt bottom out if you remove the washers? Can i fit just a standard washer? does it need to be a special thickness ? Dose Pipe Sutututu
^ yes need the right thickness the VCT actually advances the cam itself, hence there's a notch it needs to sit on Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/439725-rb25-vct-camgear-bolt-too-far-out-need-replacement/#findComment-7210299 Share on other sites

walky01
Thats everything that sits in it. i thought there should be holes or something to let the oil run through the bolt ? RRob
LOL... That is the incorrect bolt/washer assembly. Also the origional bolt is hollow down the centre to let the oil through into the gear.
