Maf Issue Or ?

Driving home late on saturday night I pulled out onto a road after going up a decent hill and the car stalled. I started the car and it stalled again but it started easily both times. The second time it stalled I started it and just drove the rest of the way home with no further issue. Full tank of fuel. My car has nbever stumbled or stalled EVER since I've had it. Yesterday I tried unsuccessfully to get the fault codes but after 5 or 6 goes I couldn't get the CEL to flash. I am confident I was doing it correctly as I had the instructions next to me.

Was this just an anomaly or is this symptomatic of the MAF starting to die? Car has 90k's which I firmly believe are genuine and has never had an MAF in it since I've had it. Opinions?

Doesn't sound like a MAF to me; the 2 I've had fail just went without warning.

One whist driving; instant CEL, and spluttered, refused to idle until unplugged. Then would only run to 2200rpm.

Second one failed on startup; CEL light on, and coughed, farted, ran like a hairy goat. Because it was stone cold, unplugging wouldn't really run smoothly.

Maybe Cam or crank angle sensor?

Agreed, sounds like cam or crank sensor.

No engine light? If the light isn't up there are no CEL codes to retrieve, which means you may be on your own with diagnosis.

As Scotty said. A crank angle sensor will do this. Has this problem with a prelude

Woudl it be intermittent like that though? Drove the car yesterday no problems and again this morning and drove as usual. Are the sensors easy to replace? Cost?

Yep, mine was cutting out for 4 seconds randomly, probably once a day. It did get worse before I changed the crank sensor which fixed it.

Sometimes just cleaning the crud off the sensor will help, the starter shaves off little pieces of metal from the ring gear which magnetize to the sensor, limiting it's ability to pick up the flywheel disk. The sensor is between the engine and bell housing so it's easy enough to clean and replace. Try that before you buy a new one Rich.
