Fined In A Non-Metered Parking Spot

Hey fellas,

Kinda dumb question but I wanted to know if you can get fined in a non-metered parking spot? I remember people mentioning Parking Officers marking tyres? Well I left my car in the city between apartments in a 1/4P for a while, 3 hours and 38 minutes to be exact according to the in-ground sensors, which is when the officer issued the fine of $72.

I wrote a letter and my defense was that on that hot day I got stuff in traffic and car had overheated so I allowed for it to cool down before driving it again (the camera in the street can verify this). I didn't call for tow truck or have proof of mechanical repair which is what they want to see as proof to re-review the infringement.

Not sure if they'll accept a second letter but if I write saying all I did was top up the cooling system and had no mechanical work done to it yet, will it be reasonable? or just bite the bullet and pay the damn thing?

Fine is due this Friday the 7th so any input is appreciated :)

Of course you can get fined in non metered parking spots...

All meters do is collect money for parking there and make the inspectors job easier by letting them know how long a car has been there...

No meter just means that the inspector needs to see your car there, and sometimes they'll put a little mark on your tyre, and then come back 15 minutes later and if the mark is in the same spot then the car has been there longer than 15 minutes. If they've got in-ground sensors, then it's just another form of metering without any payment required for the time you park there.

You were in a spot for nearly 15 times longer than was allowed and for some reason left the car... $72 ain't so bad for that :P Pay it and move on.

Some good thought here, thanks :D well I guess if you guys put it that it doesn't sound like I got hard done. Gonna pay it off then.

BTW, does this type of infringement get recorded in your record?

It's a pretty serious offence, if you apply for a job that requires a police check it will come up and you'll probably be denied the position. Also, international travel to certain countries (Singapore, USA and UK in particular) will be tricky, if you're allowed in the country at all.

You're workplace doesn't require a simple police check Martin, yours would require a weekly cavity search if security was any tighter.

Guys this is serious not only that it will be added to his record as a criminal offence, it will add to his credit rating for non-payment (if not payed by due date). He might even get black listed and won't be able to get any financial loans in the future.

Pay the fine on time, you were in the spot for too long and left the car unattended, so they have no way of knowing that it was overheating (not that they would care), and you won't have any issues.

OK, getting more confused than before so just paid the damn thing. ahhh the beauty of online payment...it doesn't hurt as much as dishing out cold hard earn cash and handing it over the counter, lol, but still there goes my F1 Grand Prix ticket

    • If your HP goal is reasonable and you are not drifting. Buy a new R34 box.  If the above is not true, buy a wrecked R33 box and put a gearset in it.  CD09 are not as strong as you think and the cost of / mess around of the conversion puts you in gearset territory.    Also the deal above is awesome,, get that
    • Just got back from a little hands-on with a G58 Baron....I was thinking about this... ..best I can figure it, that pinny was tail-ended ...I didn't really think about the wiring, because all that mattered was the tank and pump cradle (I think I mentioned the pump itself I couldn't vouch for)...which didn't matter, as you said you'd be replacing the pump anyway.... ...'for some reason'....and I imagine this is the panel shop's doing... they've replaced the cradle wiring with a metre of 7-core trailer loom, and attached the loom plug (from a different car) to that. The actual cable run from the top of the pump cradle, to fuel pump harness end in boot, is maybe 60cm in length...so I've no idea why they did this... ....the connector in the boot of the pinny, is not going to help you here...because in theory, it should still be present on your car. On top of that, because they've done what they did, we have no idea which colours of the trailer cabling, have been connected to what on the fuel pump cradle (pump +/- , shield, fuel guage/low-level senders)... ...this means, best approach is to remove the pump cradle, and re-work it now ...not later. That is, if you were going to replace the pump, do it, replace the soft lines at the same time...and sort the wiring out (replace that trailer cable with the wiring loom off your old cradle)...
    • Well, maybe not. The main feature of Chinese manufacture seems to be incredibly variable quality, coupled with an apparent willingness to find a way to see even the stuff that fails QC. So the military could still take the cream of the production run and somehow sell the "sellable but not really useable" stuff to the stupid round eyes on the other side of the world.
    • Have you adjusted the clutch pedal rod? You can wind it in to shorten it. Just can be a cnut to get to.
