Recommended Posts

1996 NISSAN SKYLINE SERIES 2 KOUKI AUTO TURBO. TWIN AIR BAG MODEL.
A VICTIM OF THE RECENT HEAT WAVE, THE HEAD HAS GIVEN WAY AND WILL NEED TO BE REPAIRED. WITH BABY PLANS IN THE WORKS IT MAKES SENCE TO PASS IT ONTO SOMEONE YOUNGER WITH MORE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT CARS.
1 OWNER 146,000KM FEMALE DRIVER. IMPORTED FROM SEI MOTORS DANDENONG. NEVER RACED, BARELY EVER SPUN THE WHEELS.

THE GOOD:

PLENTY OF GOOD PARTS WHICH CAN BE SALVAGED BUT I THINK THE CAR IS TOO GOOD TO DISMANTLE.
THE WHEELS ARE GMAX SPORTS GUN METAL W/ POLISHED LIP WITH STAGGERED WIDTHS. 18X7 FRONT WITH FIRESTONE'S PLENTY OF TREAD AND REAR 18X9.5 REARS WITH STRECHED RUBBER. NOT A NOTABLE NAME BRAND BUT GOOD TYRES WITH PLENTY OF RUBBER.
ALSO 2 MORE GMAX 18X7 WITH BAD TYRES AND 4 STANDARD SERIES 2 STOCK 15" WHEELS WITH 3 ROAD WORTHY TYRES.
AFTER MARKET CRUISE CONTROL WITH SENSOR AND MODULE FOR HILL ASCENT / DECENT. COST $1000 FITTED AT AUTOBARN
GREDDY INTERCOOLER LESS THAN 1 YEAR OLD. WITH PIPING KIT COST $800. INSTALLED BY CHASERS MOTORWORKS WEST MEBOURNE
GREDDY TURBO TIMER, DARKEST LEGAL TINT, FRONT STRUT BRACE, HARD TO FIND SERIES 2 BONNET WITH SMOOTHED AIR VENT DONE BY TEAM JETSPEED CLAYTON. THEY ALSO FITTED A FRONT BAR ADD ON, SIDE SKIRTS, REAR GTR PODS, REAR DRIFT WING, THIS GIVES THE CAR A SLEEK SHAPE WHICH WAS THE AIM. ALSO INCLUDED IS THE ORIGINAL REAR SPOILER WITH BRAKE LIGHT. STEREO: 3 WAY 6" ROUND SPEAKERS IN FRONT DOORS WITH TWEETERS AS WELL AS THE SAME SPEAKERS IN REAR PARCEL SHELF WHICH IS CARPETED 19mm THICK MDF. I CAN'T REMEMBER IF KENWOOD OR PIONEER BUT THEY SOUND GREAT. INTERIOR IS VERY NEAT. MY PARTNER HARDLY EVER HAD PASSENGERS SO THE SEATS ARE IN GREAT CONDITION AS WELL AS THE ROOF LINING. ALL ORIGINAL SKYLINE MATTS. THE BOOT HAS COMPLETE ORIGINAL CARPET WITH NEAR NEW SPACE SAVER AND THE BOOT FLOOR HAS BEEN PAINTED WITH RUST PROOF TAR SO NO RUST. CLEAR SIDE INDICATORS, THE CAR WAS MECHANICALLY SOUND BEFORE SHE DIED. SERVICED EVERY 10K WITH CASTROL MAGNATEC AND RAN ONLY 98 RON FUEL. BODY IS RUST FREE. VIPER ALARM / IMMOBILISER WITH TWO REMOTES.

THE BAD:

AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PHOTOS THE REAR HAS BEEN HIT. THIS WAS NOT OUR FAULT, THE PERSON HAS FULL COMPREHENSIVE SO IT AND CAN BE FIXED FOR FREE IF YOU WANT TO TAKE IT TO A RACV REPAIRER. (SPOT ON PANELS ARE WAITING FOR IT) I HAVE A CLAIM NUMBER AND I HAVE INFORMED RACV THAT THE CAR IS NOT RUNNING AND THEY ARE NOT CONCERNED. FOR THIS REASON I WILL LEAVE THE PLATES ON UNTIL THE WORK IS DONE. THIS MAY LEAD TO THE PLATES STAYING ON IF RWC AND ENGINE REPAIR ARE DONE SIMULTANEOUSLY. TAKE NOTE: IF I DON'T GET $3000 THEN THE PLATES WILL COME OFF PRIOR TO SALE AND THE NEW REAR END WILL NOT HAPPEN. THE FRONT BUMPER ADD ON NEEDS FIBRE GLASSING AND THE FRONT BUMPER NEEDS PAINT AND RE-POSITIONING. THE CAR HAS A FEW MARKS, ITS HARD TO SEE THEM IN A PHOTO OF A WHITE CAR TAKEN ON AN iPHONE BUT THEY EXIST. THE REAR PANELS HAVE SPOTS THAT THEY LOOK LIKE THEY HAVE BEEN TOUCHED BY A TROLLEY. THE WHEELS SHOW SIGNS OF GUTTER RASH WHICH ARE VISABLE UPON CLOSER INSPECTION. THE CD PLAYER WAS A GIFT SO IT STAYS WITH ME AND THE ANTENNA IS BROKEN. AND OF COURSE THE HEAD IS BLOWN.

    • Yeah they sure are available for import now, its great news Matt, You need an import specialist insurer, nothing has really changed over the years about the mainstream insurance companies not touching them. I have my cars with Lumley (same group as NRMA etc) because they insure imports and have a good concept of "stable use" where as long as no more than 2 cars are being driven each day you can have them all on a good rate, I've also had no issues with claims through them. Note they won't insure a car if you take it to the track, even for an off track claim. Shannons are another option but I had a lot of trouble with their claims (they were happy to take the premiums, not so keen to pay out), and I'm sure there are other import specialists too
    • I'm a lifelong home drummer, was in a couple of bands as a teenager/early 20's then moved to Japan and didn't play at all until 2019 when my missus and I were invited to check out the band room upstairs at a restaurant cafe here in JP. They had a full acoustic drum kit and they let me have a bash for about 20 mins. I went away from there wondering how I could not play for 19 years.... Missus bought me a e-drum kit a few weeks later (Yamaha DTX402) which is basic but lets me play at home in my tiny Japanese house.  Also have an Epiphone Les Paul and little Vox amp and delay pedal I bought for the missus because she wanted to learn to play the guitar, but she never got into it. That was about 8 years ago. I taught myself to play some 80's U2 song riffs like the Fly solo, etc and some other things but being a drummer I don't really have the dexterity in the fingers lol. Ham fisted if you will. So I kind of just mess around with the guitar rather than try to seriously play complete songs. My son on the other hand inherited all my side of the family's musical talent and is a brilliant classical pianist at 16 years old. He'll go on to do something in the music industry here for sure once he finished his schooling. I got him a Yamaha NU1XA hybrid piano earlier this year.
    • If the BOV is plumbed in as mentioned, like stock.... why exactly would it stall? It'd be like stock. Do stock cars stall with stock bovs?
    • You mean a rich spike, as the air has been metered multiple times due to the turbulent air, you end up injecting more fuel causing a momentary dip in torque and quite possibly a stall event. TL;DR, install a Haltech Elite or S3 or R3, convert to DBW, throw all ancient shit into the bin and enjoy the car.
