Ok, Hi Guys, This is my first post here so go easy
I'm fairly new to the skyline scene.

Well, Not new, I've been creeping around these forums for a year and abit now however do not actually own a skyline as of yet.
My Question is an odd one and I am certain will be shot down by more then one person so please don't flame.

I have tried searching this in SAU and on google but nothing has come up... as i think people aren't fans of degrading the GTR's with lesser engines.

Ok, So I currently own a golf and am on the second year of my Vic probationary license.
I've always been a fan of Skylines especially the GTR'S.
With that in mind, I was looking at importing a R32 GTR. However the fact is I can't drive it legally.
Now i've come up with these scenarios/ options.

A. I just risk it for the 12-18 months in which i will almost certainly get raped for it by highway patrol on the first instance they see a skyline.
I lose my license for 3 months, P's gets extended by 9 months

B. I buy the GTR, I also buy a RB25de plus all necessary hardware to convert it. (I've estimated $1200) and engine should bolt straight up to existing 26box/atessa.I then drive the GTR legally with an RB25 until i'm fully licensed however in the time the engine is out, I build it up doing a full internal upgrade + Big single turbo, etc ready to drop in as soon as I hit full license.

C. Other option which was similar to B. was instead I **attempt** to build a 25/30 to drop in once I hit full license.

Does anyone know if option B will still cause demerit loss and trouble if I was pulled over for driving a GTR with an N/A engine?

Please let me know what your take on the legality side of it is. I realize most will think its a waste of time/ blasphemy but trust me I understand and would much rather keep the turbo in it...

Yeah I knew this would be the case, I thought option B mightn't work.
At present I've got to look for a new car anyway as the golf is having some issues with its gearbox.

But hey atleast i understand that i can't get an exception for the car.

Looks like its back to the drawing board.

Is it an auto? They had a recall not long ago. And when did you last get it serviced? From memory they need doing every 50k

Manual, Diff went through the gearbox before Christmas and isn't covered by warranty.
Basically VW used rivets in they're diffs in that Gen and when the rivet comes undone the spider gear expands and sends chunks at high speed through gearbox.
I woulda been doing 1800 rpm when it happened -_-

I had my R33 for about 6 months while I was on my P's. It's a pain in the ass having a car you can't legally drive, unless you get a shit box and fix it up over that time. You're better off saving for the remaining time you're on your P's and getting a clean car and being able to drive it straight away.

Yeah, I know its nerve racking driving a ban car.
However i know a guy that drove a bright yellow Evo 8 for nearly a year on his p's.
Didn't get done until the day before his birthday...

The general consensus is I guess be patient, do the right thing and wait until my full license.

*Sigh* Guess its either that or have a track only car until full license...

IT's not about getting caught when in a car that you cannot drive on the road and copping a fine. It's about the fact that if you have an accident insurance will NOT cover you. Even worse, if you hit someone and kill them you will get charged with manslaughter.

I still can't beleive young people even CONSIDER driver a can they cannot legally drive, or that their parents would even consider letting them.

Firstly, I know I can't drive the car, As i said. Option A isn't really an option. (If you didn't detect the subtle sarcasm)

I'm currently looking for ways to reduce power to keep other aspects of the car whilst on my probation.

The Attessa system being the major factor as to why I like the GTRS.

Otherwise I take it on track with the RB26dett where condition are kept monitored and risks are minimised.

However on the topic of hitting and killing someone.

You can kill someone in an excel just as much as you can in a skyline.Every single car on the road with enough speed will become a 1ton+ missle. In which you will be charged for manslaughter anyway. So i don't overly accept that point.

That being said, I'm not in the business of killing people and would like to do things as legitimately and safely as possible

Why would you build the 26 while it's out then drop it back in?
You'll have been driving a non turbo 25 then you wanna jump straight into a big HP car?
You're on your P's for a reason (does unexperienced driver ring a bell?)

Place your bets people, kid to hit tree in 3…2…1...

The only way those ideas would work is if you get it engineered as a n/a. Otherwise you are still in the eyes of the law driving a turbo even if you put a corolla motor in it.

Besides, this is retarded and is it already school holidays?

Exactly right mate, just be patient & wait. It'll happen, & when it does you can enjoy it without staring in your mirrors, & you can concentrate on the road infront.

The problem with buying one before your off your P's is, RTA, DMV, RMS or whoever down in Dictoria probably wont let you register it without approval, even if you don't drive it.

Get rid of the junk German stuff, buy a reliable japanese banger & save for the pristine GTR - they ARE out there!

You can hit someone in an excel and THAT will be considered an accident, not manslaughter depending on the circumstances (i.e speeding, drink driving). If you are driving a car you can not legally drive YOU will be charged with manslaughter and see jail time. In the eyes of the law there is a big difference.

Just wait until you are off your P's and go nuts it honestly is not worth the risk.

+1

I've been in a similar boat mate for the last couple of years. End of the day, without taking major risks its not feasible. I'm not willing to risk my licence over it, I enjoy driving too much.

I'm on the home straight now, 2 months until I get my opens. I'm going through the purchase of my new car this week (rb26 S15). My plan for the next 2 months is to work on it every chance I get, however I'm not doing power mods - I'm doing reliability/safety mods (oil returns, catch can, baffled sump, oil pump, braided lines, brakes, alarm etc.).

The biggest thing to realize in our situation is that no matter how good a driver of your current P plate car you are, if we go and build an all-singing all-dancing beast of a car for the moment we get our opens that car is going to bite us in the ass at some point. The last thing I want to see is this car damaged because I wasn't a good enough driver to handle it. It'll devastate you emotionally and financially.

This car has had work, but I'm purposely going to be running waste gate level boost until I get used to the car (estimating 3-6 months of daily driving), and then slowly creep it up to what it's currently running as and when I feel I can deal with it. Only then will I look at power upgrades. I expect that process to take 1-2 years.

Everyone here wants a nice car, and the frustration of being legally told you cannot drive the car you want to is something a lot of people here wouldn't understand (it's very easy to say "wait wait wait" when you've not been in the situation yourself) and honestly it makes you want it more.

That in mind, May 8th (opens day) is going to roll around for me, and it's going to be a fantastic day finally being able to drive this car.

TL;DR - Don't be discouraged by everyone telling you you're going to wrap your car around a tree, just be sensible about the whole process, don't go and hop into a 400HP car as soon as you get off your Ps. Educate yourself as much as possible and try to keep yourself busy with quality of life / reliability / safety mods, rather than go-faster mods. From my experience you'll gain a lot more respect and positive opinions from people on forums taking this route.
