Hey everyone. to start with i have a 1990 r32 gtr. My problem i believe is that the syncros are worn. 4th gear making a fair crunch noise when selecting.

I have read somewhere previously that people upgrade the internals of the 32 box with 33gtr parts.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Im not really interested in upgrading the gearing. I would just be looking at doing the syncros and bearings.

So what im really asking is should i buy the parts for a 32 or are the syncros for a 33 a better option and will they fit without swapping everything out?

Thanks in advance.

The story i heard was that some of he R32 parts were superseded with R33 parts, which are better (more sychros on 3rd and 4th IIRC), however, that means you have to replace some associated parts to the R33 items. I guess you could contact Nissan to ask about parts availability.

If you're in Sydney, Award Diff and Gearbox are very well regarded. You need special tools for the job, so its probably best left to a workshop.

Some get a little more life out of their gearboxes by using Redline Lightweight Shockproof (aka Smurfs blood), which makes the synchros grip a little better.

All this stuff has been covered before so do a search.

the 32 and 33 series 1-2 parts are superseded so you can only buy the series 3 r33 stuff now anyway. I'm not sure exactly what is and is not included, I just had it all changed across when the box was rebuilt (by Award, the guys Adam mentioned)
